Doing Peg Injections

I did my first peg injection on my own yesterday, first one was at the hospital. I think I did everything right but when I withdrew the needle there were a couple of drops leaking from the needle and there seemed to be a tiny amount in the bottom of the syringe - does anyone know if this is normal? Should there be anything left?

I’ve been doing EPO injections weekly previously but that syringe is different, the needle automatically withdraws itself inside when you complete the injection.

Any advice is appreciated.

When I was on Pegasys I used to worry always about odd little leaks and whether it had all gone in. It really was always fine and I'm certain you have nothing to worry about with this.

The small amount left in the bottom of the syringe is normal. It doesn’t seem to come out. Sometimes when I withdraw the needle there is a bobble of clear liquid appears at the injection site. Sometimes it is blood instead. Can vary. Can’t say I have noticed the needle itself cos I don’t think I have actually looked. Well done on your first jab. Always a bit scary at first but you get used to it

Measuring the injections is not a precise affair. The small amount you describe is not significant.

One thing I learned is that if you withdraw the need too quickly after the injection you can get backflow from the injection site. It works best to leave the needle in for a few seconds after the injection is dome.

All the best.

hi there, Congratulations on the first! What you have described is pretty normal for me as well. I tend to release the squeeze on my skin and then wait a couple of seconds before withdrawing the needle. I also find it reacts slightly differently on different areas on my body. Penny

Yes - sometimes same thing happens - spoke with my MPN specialist and he said nt to worry about it - also said make sure to leave in a few seconds after injection..definitely not an exact science....

Hi. I did my first "at home" one on Wed (my first was the week before at the hospital too).

I had similar thoughts doing mine at home even though I followed the instructions I had written down and I'd done the first injection myself in the hospital while being watched.

I just figure that the same likely happened the first time but I was being more watchful this time as I was alone. I also assumed that a tiny drop or two is fine to see, especially considering I have to squeeze half the syringe our before injecting.

Good luck with it all xx
