has anyone gotten a rash on their feet from hydroxyurea or just having thrombocytosis

I am reaching out to you wonderful people again. I have a red blotchy rash on my feet and have had this for a year. Someone called it micro vascular but I am not too sure what that is or if this is correct. I have been taking hydroxyurea since the fall of 2020, I have essential thrombocytosis jak 2. Does anyone know if the ET or hydroxyurea can be causing this. It doesnt hurt it is just there. I thought maybe it did but then I am questioning if it is something else and maybe I shouldnt be just accepting this. If there is anything someone knows about this I would really appreciate any information.

Hi Kittycat,

Have you looked into Erythrmomelalgia yet?

...and have you showed your MD?

That's highly recommended.

Best,

PA

Thanks for this information, I took a look at it, could be part of the same family, but this rash has never hurt me or caused any pain or anything, it is just there. I will pursue with my doctor though. thanks again.

Hydroxycarbamide can cause a rash. ET can cause microvascular symptoms, where the abnormal flow of blood cells through capillaries causes issue. One type of microvascular symtom is erythema, which can occur in the feet. It can look like this. google.com/search?q=erythem...

You would need to consult with a MPN Specialist and possibly a dermatologist to determine what you are experiencing. The intervention would be different based on the cause.

Hi, thanks for this. I see some similarities, but strange this didnt start until I had taken HU and had ET for maybe I would say around 1 1/2 to 2 years. I didnt worry about this too much before because I thought it would go, but now I would like to find out what is happening. I am going to look into it. Thanks again..

Hi, I have PV, after a year on HU I got a slightly raised, red, rash on my left ankle area. Never had anything like it before. I consulted a dermatologist about the rash and he said it was eczema and to use cortisone on it. It went away in about 10 days and came back right next to where it had been, used cortisone on this new area and it went away and came back in the original area. After about a month or 6 weeks total the rash went away and has not been back for over a year. I continued with the HU and still take it. So, maybe check with a dermatologist. Best to you.

Hi thanks for getting back to me. I am definitely going to pursue this. Asking both dermatologist and the hematologist to see if she knows anything about what this could be. I appreciate your information. thanks again

Hello , yes I too have ET. My feet as very marked and blotchy. They used to itch terribly before I was diagnosed and had platelets reduced. I have tricky bumpy veins too which tend to mark easily even with good foot wear!! Wish I could wear lovely sandals but tend to cover my feet with trainers!!

I take Hydroxy and my feet have started itching and hurting a lot lately, especially at night. I've been on Hydroxy for over a year now.
