There are a number of things it could be. I have experienced that kind of symptom myself. In my case it was muscular. The shoulder is a complex set of muscles that need to be able to move in a full range of motion. Pain can be referenced to different locations from where the actual problem is. At various times i have used physical therapy and/or massage therapy to manage this issue.

I have an excellent massage therapist I see on a regular basis to prevent problems like this from occurring. She is amazing! This intervention helps keeps me functional.

Your husband should be sure to review this symptom with his care team. Chronic pain is the body's way of telling us something is wrong. This could be something very simple and easy to treat.

All the best to you both.

yes will definitely call doctor tomorrow and ask. My husband isn’t one for going to the doctors easily so it’s myself that has to constantly say to him which frustrates me!

I have had similar pain for a few months. I think with ET I’m more sensitive to aches and pains. I also get massage now every 2-3 weeks. It is helpful. I believe it’s just muscular.

Before my platelets were high. ( not down yet, but I’m on HU). I did not feel as achy. I am much more so now.

Is the pain always dull? Does he experience a sharp pain every now again? It could well be his kidneys and needs checking out. I have a rare kidney disease so certainly not suggesting this, but when I’ve not drunk enough I get the dull ache, if this is with the addition of a stabbing pain that comes and goes, it usually means I’ve made a kidney stone or just have lots of grit, Kidneys can be pretty sensitive. Obviously like Hunters suggested it could well be muscular too, in either cases sitting with a heat pack on the area can be really helpful and paracetamol/ ibuprofen too. I hope he’s feeling better soon x

He should definitely have it checked out. Better safe than sorry.

I had the same. For me it turned out to be pancreatis. At one point i was hospitalized. Im not too bad now, but if i eat fatty/ sugary food or eat within 6hrs bed time i will get it. I just work around it.

It's not impossible that this is a presentation of splenomegaly [enlargement of his spleen], esoecially if he's feeling too full to finish eating along with it, but it can happen all by itself too.

Agree withy all previous commenters- it needs checking out.

Best,

PA
