Good morning all. Advice please. I have prv jak 2 and portal vein thrombosis and taking hydroxycarbamide and warfarin. Yesterday I noticed i have small red spots under the skin on my legs but not itchy. I have Dr googled and know i shouldn't but rather concerned that it could be petechiae. Has anyone else had this problem. Waiting for a call back from haematologist. Thanks

Hi there, I have those, they turn up in various places and they are petechiae, but was told it's nothing to worry about.

Regards, Liz

Hi liz. Thanks for the reply. I did suspect that. Just a bit concerned that my inr is well over the range that i should be and they just appeared from nowhere. I had bigger ones on the tops of my legs which faded but never completely went away. Thanks.

Hi not sure if same as me but before I was diagnosed I noticed red spots down the lower half of both legs. They didn't disappear but took me to the doctors who didn't suspect anything until a locum referred me to hematologist. I still have them 7 years on but don't know what they are but I have Jak2ET and taking hydroxy.

Hi jenny. Haematologist suspects petechiae but will see what the blood tests come back with. I had similar at the tops of my legs when I was first diagnosed and they never disappeared completely but they were slightly bigger but i have noticed they reappear in the hot weather which makes me think it has something to do with the blood. I will keep you updated. Thanks for the reply. Take care.

I also have had these appear on lower legs recently, both pin-prick size and larger. Because of Covid I haven't gone for a doctor appointment. They aren't itchy or hot or anything, so I didn't know whether to worry or not. I have PV. Like you, I googled and thought it was petechiae for the small ones and purpuria for the large ones, but couldn't find how serious they were or what to do. So I really appreciate your post, and I look forward to hearing how you go. Wishing you all the best.

Hi mpn blog. It is worth getting it checked out. Quite worrying when there are people like ourselves with this complaint. When i first had them the haemotoligist just dismissed them and didn't think it was to do with the mpn but the one i spoke to yesterday seemed quite concerned that it could be down to low platelets. I think we have to be persistent with our ailments to get any answers. Good luck with yours too. It could be something and nothing but it needs to be checked out. Take care.

Thanks for getting back. My platelets have been dropping, though still in normal range, so I think from the posts here I need to follow up. Thanks for the heads up.

Hello

I have PRV Jak2 and portal Thrombosis and is on the same Med as yourself. The only difference was I was taken off Warfarin after 6 months and placed on Eliquis Apixaban Blood-thinning Tablets. When I was diagnosed two years and was rushed to the hospital. After running many more bloodtest and CT scans. I was then moved to a large hospital in Melbourne Australia. I had a blood clot in my Portal Vein which caused damage to my liver. I had noticed for months I had many little red dots on my body. My fantastic team of Liver & Hemotogist had told me this was the cause of the blood clot and my Liver was under stress and not flowing. I had a stent placed into my liver and attached to my hepatic and portal vein. I now only have two small dots on my stomach after two years. They have disappeared. Take care

Glad to hear yours have disappeared and hope your doing OK now. I too had a blood clot in the portal vein. Seems like we're in the hands of the gods. Will keep you posted on the results. Thanks and take care.

Just a quick question. Were your inr results out of range. Mine have been a bit erratic lately. My range is between 2.5 and 3 but it's ranged between 1.6 to 3.6. I also am suffering with chronic lower back pain. Thanks.

Hello

When I was on Warfarin my levels of INR had changed within the first three weeks.. The Haematologist was changing my dose to suit my INR. I had to get blood test every second day for over three months and the INR level was always changing and I had so many needles at this stage I was feeling broken. As I was on clexane injection before this. And then I felt sick again after three months and ended up back in hospital the day before New Year Eve. I had a minor procedure done which my stent which had slightly narrowed and that was fixed while I was awake. I had to wait for my next appointment with my Team and they decided to try on Apixaban as they were not one hundred percent sure if the narrowing of my stent was caused by my body not liking a foreign object or I could have another bloodclot.....Today I am x2 Apixaban a day with aspirin in the morning. I am in my 40's. I hope this helps you out

Sounds like you have been through the mill. Yes thanks. I will wait to hear from the haematologist with my blood results and inr and take it from there. They have been adjusting the warfarin dose every week but still can't get it stable. Thanks for the advice will keep you posted. Take care

I have ET and had the red spots on the back of my ankles which over 10 years spread up the back of my legs to my knees. When I was taken off HU after 12 years the spots totally disappeared in about a month. My doctor didn’t know what caused the red dots but seems like too much of a coincidence for it to be anything other than HU. My legs have been normal for two years now without HU.

It can be petechiaes. It is due to platelets. flat, red, pinpoint spots under the skin that are caused by bleeding

Thanks for the info. I'm almost certain that it is that. My inr results have come back and it's gone up even higher to 3.7. Still waiting for haematologist to call me back as to the next step. Thank you. Take care.
