Covid treatment

I'm ill with Covid, fainting, temperature, bad throat, sneezing, cough. tested positive on Tues, had a Peg injection the day before, also topical antibiotics for eye, could either of these be making me worse? Wondering whether best to ring NHS 111, or the hospital for advice. Thanks for reading Jo

Hi Jo , sorry you're suffering , obviously Covid affects us all differently and gets played down alot with this Omicron variant I find. My guess is that your symptoms are solely down to Covid made worse by being immuno-compromised. Do you have access to the Anti- viral drugs which may help alleviate your symptoms ,,others may know how to obtain them but I'm unsure. Maybe ringing 119 which is a Covid reporting / response line might be of help.

Hope things improve and you get well soon.

Hard to say if the PEG is contributing. Do you get any of the flu-like symptoms normally? If not, expect it is irrelevant. I would call your MPN Care team to check in though. I felt pretty lousy when I had COVID. I was told to just carry on with normal PEG injections. Did not seem to make any difference on way or the other.

Hope you feel better soon.

I would say get those antiviral drugs asap. Even if you do start to feel a little better as some people do take a turn for the worse after feeling a little improved. Keep us informed.

If you report your positive test on the NHS covid app and at some point you have been on the shielding list or CEV list, you will be contacted automatically by the NHS and offered anti viral medication.

Thanks so much for your support and advice. My temperature is finally down to normal, the cough is really getting going, fainting stopped. I rang NHS 111 yesterday, the doc told me he'd ring me back about the antivirals but hasn't so far, he did tell me that no one who's vacced goes to hospital because of Covid anymore. My last Hb was 93 which I think must be why I feel so weak with this. Anyway hopefully on the mend ☘

I can relate to your experience. I had Covid the week before Easter with similar symptoms. I had topical antibiotic for the eyes too. I logged my positive result online then called 111 immediately . No automatic call from the NHS. It was 48 hours later before a clinician called from the local CMDU to assess me and prescribe the antiviral which was couriered to me that day ( DAY3 ). I believe the antiviral worked for me as the symptoms much improved within 24 hours and I tested negative on Day 7. Hope you continue to improve .

Thanks, the eye thing is interesting. I think I was turned down for antivirals cos I said I could walk upstairs, but my lungs have become very painful, particularly lying down, hard to rest. I'm now on day 7.

Interesting. The assessment didn't ask about specific symptoms. Just checked what my condition is ; ET and looked at my GP notes hoping recent blood tests results were available. Told me I was eligible and that was it. Now my only symptom is a niggly cough. Today I was able to have my 5th dose of vaccine . Take care.
