I have been really touched by the number of supportive responses to my update on my chemotherapy/hospital experience a couple of days ago.

I can't reply to everyone individually but I want you all to know that I really appreciate the outpouring of support, kindness and encouragement in this group.

A couple of you made suggestions about how I might get hold of some better food. Unfortunately, the food I'm allowed to eat after chemotherapy is VERY restricted, so it seems I am stuck with Serco! However, once of the nurses kindly got me some biscuits and crisps from the hospital shop so things are not completely hopeless!

Love to you all, Jennie

Good to hear that you are getting a few treats from the hospital shop. Of course we don’t expect you to reply to us individually just keep the forum updated when you have the inclination and energy..

On a separate issue;

Why is it when I pressed the like tab it went to unlike? I’m terrified I’m going to upset someone by accident .

Hey Jennie just catching up here as been a busy boy of late doing a little DIY (ought to be DIY Why ?) And helping a family member pack up and move though mainly ferrying things to the Charity shop and wrapping breakables. I'm not up to lifting stuff nowadays.

I caught up,with your update and like others I'm pleased to hear things are progressing. The food was a major issue for me also but I discovered via Dietician there was an alternative menu choice which was available to me some of which was edible. I liked the goat curry ! Obviously it might not be the same where you are. Also I could ask for soup and one of the nurses would microwave a tin of Heinz but no bread to dip sadly.

When I went back into Manchester Royal with my GVHD I mostly gave up on the hospital food and spent about £400 over 7 weeks on meals and snacks for my wife and I which she was permitted to microwave on the Unit after signing a disclaimer! . One day she bought me a McDonald's Big Mac as I craved it, however I found it far too salty to eat , could of been the cheese slice I dunno. My taste intensified for a time.

I hope you get home inbetween times, I had a Reduced Intensity transplant so after 5 or 6 days of chemo my Sisters Stem Cells went in then I was in for another 3-4 weeks isolation waiting for something to happen and keeping me as safe as possible from infection. The counts are sometimes very slow to kick in and I too needed numerous reds and Platelets transfusions.

Wishing you all the luck in the world and I will be thinking of you.
