« A new Blood Advances study suggests that people with cancer and non-O blood types, such as types A, B, and AB, face an increased risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE), or blood clots in the veins, three months after their initial diagnosis. Scientists have long strived to understand the risk factors for VTE, the leading cause of preventable hospital deaths in the United States »

An interesting side-bar is that people with type O tend to have lower von Willebrand Factor levels.

"Individuals with blood type O have VWF concentrations that are about 25% lower than persons who have other blood types. It has been found that more VWD patients have type O blood than any other blood type, and it is possible that some of those patients do not have a genetic abnormality."

Quick look at that article, I think it suggests if a type O has this condition, it is more likely than with AB to be acquired.

That was the main thrust of the article as it regards von Willebrand Disease. Blood type can impact making the diagnosis. Aside from vWBD , people with type O without the disease tend to have lower vWB factors. Something I learned working with my hematologist when we were evaluating me for vWBD.

In a recent post discussed a relation to covid severity, type O is potentially better in this context than type A for example.

But Hunter's note here shows type O may have other trade offs.

This is timely vs recent thread on blood types. It does suggest we should have this info.
