Booster jab

Has anyone (in the U.K.) got their under 18 jabbed with the booster.? Just tried with my 17 year old who had vaccines 1 and 2 ‘early’ because of me. First they demanded proof I had a blood cancer and then refused because he is under 18. Crazy.

Once again the system is proving completely haphazard. The irony of course is, that having deemed it appropriate to vaccinate him early on, the protection he did have is possibly now wearing off (or has worn off) and in any event is unlikely to be effective against Omicrom. Despite our best efforts to keep everyone safe, I’m feeling exposed again. And it’s hardly fair to him either.

What about trying your luck at a drop in vaccination centre. Good luck

Totally agree. I'm in the same boat. My 17 year old had their 2nd vaccine at the beginning of July and I am really worried as I cannot book the booster for her. Her 6 months are up on 2 Jan so I should be able to book but the system is only set up for under 18's if they are immunosuppressed or work in a care home. Everyone is very sympathetic but no -one can help, just because the computer is set up wrong. Additionally, I am now past my 62 days since my 3rd primary dose, so again should be able to book my booster for the 3 month mark, but because i had to have it as a booster - guess what - the 119 system tells me that I do not need any more vaccines! GP is far too busy and no one taking responsibility yet again. As from tomorrow, all 30 year olds and up can now bring their boosters forward to 3 months. By the time they get this sorted myself and my daughter will have no protection and there will be no available appointments in my area. Sorry to rant, but I am feeling that I won't even be safe in my own home with my immediate family for Christmas ( just like last). And all people seem to care about is whether they will be able to go to Christmas parties! Very fed up and a bit scared. And you are right, it is not fair on our children. I try very hard to give them as normal life as possible but it is really hard when their friends can go out and mix but they are scared they may bring the virus home. Sorry - rant over!

There is clearly an anomaly in the system. Now there’s a surprise! I suspect no one has thought about this and joined up the dots. I’ve written to Blood Cancer U.K. because they have lobbied on behalf of patients throughout this pandemic. Maybe you might do the same? The group of people entitled to the third primary vaccine was a relatively small proportion of the population and I imagine the number of people within that who are in our situation with under eighteens even smaller. Doubt the policy makers have even considered us. 😬

With regards to the booster after the third primary … given the farce that was the roll out of the latter, I suggest you go through your hospital haem department. It’s the only way I got my third primary and I suspect it’s the only way I’m going to get any further jabs.

Hi . Yes you are right I'm sure - they have dropped off the system. Yes I have already written to Blood Cancer Uk. This week I am thinking of CCG and my MP, GP and Heamatology Dept. Although for the 3rd dose Haematology just provided a letter and had no idea how to book it. When I arrived at the vaccination centre, the only way they could input it on the system was to put it under a booster - hence the problem now. I cannot find anything that specifically says that 16-17 year olds living with immunosuppressed people will have their boosters brought forward, but the NHS website definitely says they are eligible for a booster. My daughter's 6 months are up at the beginning of January, so my last ditch final plan is to take her to a walk in centre then (right in the middle of her A Level mocks but that can't be helped I guess). Not my favourite option as there will be lots of people and a long wait which is risk in itself. I will have to do the same for me if the worst comes to the worst.

Clearly we are in exactly the same boat re seventeen year olds, mocks, six months since second vaccine etc. Walk-ins currently have no authority to jab under 18s and if they were to jab them, they have no means of recording it (I have this all from the horse’s mouth as it were). Same old, same old. No one in Whitehall appears to have joined the dots. Let’s keep agitating. 😬👍🏻

Thanks. I'm sorry that you are in the same boat, but at the same time it's good to know I'm not alone. Good luck.

Evidence based practice possibly on the side of caution to prevent myocarditis in the youngest. There isn't a one size fits all and we are all in the same boat trying to protect each other as much as possible.

Of course vaccination centre staff need evidence each time anyone presents at a session..... People will say anything to get a jab.

Staff were by all accounts charming. No comment on their professionalism. Just venting frustration at the inconsistencies in the system that leave people very eager to comply relatively more vulnerable.
