Covid and poorly

Morning all. Just wanted to inform you all to please be careful out there. I have pv jak 2. Had 3 full Pfizer vaccines. Had grandaughter overnight who the day after tested positive. Hubby and I both went for pcr test yesterday. Both of us feeling really poorly in the night. Sweating. Coughing and sore throat. Much to our surprise had the dreaded text this morning to say we're both positive. Both of us not feeling well at all now but dread to think what i would be like without the vaccines. Just how many of us have no antibodies?? Stay safe all of you. Just goes to show it's definitely not going away. And boris thinks we're fine to go about our business without shielding!!! I beg to differ.

How awful for you. We do really have to be so vigilant My daughter tends to think that because I’ve had 3 jabs it’s safe for her to come over and me to go out

She doesn’t seem to comprehend the need for me to be so careful and it causes tension

I hope you both feel better very soon , take care of yourselves

poly2 in reply to sweetpea19

It really does go to show you can't be too careful. We haven't been out socialising or visiting and all the family do lateral tests before they come but it could take a few days before it shows. We will still be wearing masks for a long time. Take care.

My daughter feels the same 😞

Oh goodness how awful for you! - It is absolutely ‘still out there’ + I am appalled at the general ‘it’s all over I don’t need a mask’ attitude that I see regularly (my family thank goodness continue to be super careful though we are having to chip in with child care) - sending wishes for a speedy recovery. Very best Anne-Marie x

poly2 in reply to amhann

I totally agree. The amount of people who don't wear masks far outweighing those of us who do!! The cases are rising fast and it should be back to mandatory wearing everywhere. Stay safe and thank you

Absolutely agree mandatory mask wearing should be back in if not exempt. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Tina.x☺

If exempt maybe you should shield !

Tico profile image
Tico in reply to Wyebird

Sometimes impossible when you live alone and if you just want to get on with life. Even though i'm exempt the majority of the time i've always worn a mask unless having problems due to breathing difficulties I might be experiencing, even then sometimes I have kept it on with great discomfort. Tina.🤗

Good luck to you. Are you able to get Regeneron or the other antibody infusions or any other treatments??

poly2 profile image
poly2 in reply to Meatloaf9

Thank you. I've not heard of that but will be interesting to find out. I have put on the track and trace app that i would be interested in doing the antibodies test

Meatloaf9 profile image
Meatloaf9 in reply to poly2

Regereron, I think that is how it is spelled, and there is at least on other are antibodies that are given IV as soon as you are diagnosed to persons who are considered high risk for serious covid. They have to be given within the first 10 days. I had this discussion yesterday with my GP and he told me that due to the PV he would immediately order that I receive Regeneron if I should become infected. He said almost all of his patients who received the drug recovered in a day or two and no one died. We had the discussion because a good friend of mine who was fully vaccinated recently died of covid. He did have a chronic leukemia, I don't know which one. Information about these drugs is available on the US CDC website. I am in the US.

Best of luck to you and husband in this and all your battles.

poly2 in reply to Meatloaf9

Thanks for that. I've just had a quick scan about it. It's called ronapreve and been approved here in the UK. Really surprised it's not widely known but then again!! If I still feel poorly in the morning i think I will give haematology a call. Much appreciated. Take care

Never heard of regeneron, I wonder if it’s available in the UK.

Meatloaf9 profile image
Meatloaf9 in reply to Wyebird

See the post by poly2 above. I guess regeneron in the UK is called ronapreve. In the US we have access to it thru our family doc who refers us to hospital for the infusion. It reportedly makes many persons better almost overnight. It was given to President Trump when he became ill with covid and he was shortly back to work. It has to be given as soon as possible and within 10 days of testing positive. Good luck to all.

I said I would do that and heard nothing- how far are you from Oxford? Once you are over this you could volunteer to by part of Covid/myloid trials. You get the works done with your blood😉. Wishing you a speedy recovery 💐

Really sorry to hear this. Hope you and hubby get through this without too much suffering.

I agree about the masks and the social distancing too. I don’t get the complacency of people. I’m in an area where the numbers are high, but it still seems to have no effect. Xx

Thank you .I wouldn't like to think what we would both be like without any vaccines. It's the same in this area. You would think it was all over but who will be the one's that complain if there is another lockdown. But with bumbling boris i feel we've been thrown under the bus!! Take care and stay safe

Hi Poly2, , Thank You, its really good of you to make the effort when you're so unwell to remind us that we still need to be extra careful going about our daily lives and sadly still be wary around family and friends.

All the warning signs are there , the science bods are making noises and it's time our Govt reintroduced measures before we're faced with our NHS being overwhelmed this coming Winter. Our local hospital has a number of Covid admissions.

I sincerely hope you both feel better soon and being vaccinated helps reduce the severity of infection.

Wishing you both a speedy recovery.

Chris

Sending get well wishes to you & your husband. Absolutely agree with you - what would happen without the jabs and the government's sheer complacency. It seems to be more rife than before - herd immunity is not working. Take care x

So sorry to hear. Try to get the monoclonial transfusion within the next 10 days. I've had two friends get the virus who have had 3 pfizer vaccines get this treatment. They both have multiple health issues but came through this just fine. Are you on any drugs for the PV that supresse's the immune system? Kerry

poly2 profile image
poly2 in reply to ritaandscooter1

Hi . I'm taking hydroxycarbamide and apixaban. Hubby's also on treatment for prostate cancer. Both feeling really poorly today .

ritaandscooter1 profile image
ritaandscooter1 in reply to poly2

Prayers are with you to both get better! I went off all drugs ( on Pegasys) with first 2 Pfizer shots and had no visible reaction. (wanted full effect of shot) The 3rd booster shot I was on Pegasys and had a horrible reaction. I truly believe the drugs we take interact with the vaccine and could lessen the antibody response especially if your on HU. Just a thought from what I experienced. I'm PV Jak2 positive, age 60.

EPguy profile image
EPguy in reply to poly2

Wishing you well.

What is your HU dose? Also do you have any recent CBC blood results and from near the times you received your vaxes? Lymphocytes and Neut are of interest here. These are usually affected by HU.

LLS survey, picture here, suggests we should do ok on vax effects. But I'm not sure how complete this is.

We have same issue on the antibody treatment in the US, it's not being used as much as it should be. There is a new pill that should get approved in the US soon, molnupiravir, that is effective treating covid. Much easier to take than the antibody, but it's not yet avail and the antibody is still the most effective treatment.

I had covid Mar 2020 and 3x Pf vax. It's sort of like getting 4x vax. But we never know.

I recently encountered a guy who said "it's just a flu" and the 700k US deaths are a lie. Makes me mad.

Lena70 profile image

That's just awful that he believes this. The 700k deaths are very much real. This latest wave has let up where I'm at, but I'm worried about the winter after hearing about cases rising again in the UK.

So sorry you got the virus. I hope you soon recover. I was feeling more confident about going out after my 3rd jab! However, it's no life shielding and if you live alone without a pet, it's torture so I will be going out whilst continuing to be very careful

As a fellow PV sufferer I just want to add my best wishes to you and husband for a speedy recovery. I was horrified yesterday to hear of a local care home where 33 of the residents are now testing positive, due apparently to one being sent back with it from hospital. Carers and all visitors been being tested daily throughout. None of the residents as yet have received their booster either. What is going on?

Wyebird profile image
Wyebird in reply to Inclement

Is that in the uk?

Yes, and in a home which is very highly regarded locally. My friend's 95 yr old mum is not at all well so she is obviously very concerned.

Do hope you start to feel better soon. So glad you've had your 3rd jab. There is no guarantee that COVID will go away anytime soon. My husband is still not going out, only to hospital & doctor appointment. He just doesn't feel safe. He's waiting for his 3rd jab, but I really believe even after having that he won't be going out. The number keep going up.

So again I do hope you start feeling better soon. X

Ouch 3 vaccines sorry to hear you are really unwell. - I had two and Covid I wasn’t that bad with it. Yes it annoys me that masks are not mandatory and that people refuse to have the jabs. Wish they would think of others. Just imagine if our soldiers took the same attitude - our right of choice!!!

My brother had Covid after 2 jabs (booster not due) and has been unable to function normally for about 4 weeks now. His wife had Covid, then 2 jabs and has caught it again although she only had a couple of days of feeling rough. Neither of them have underlying health conditions and are both careful but she is a teacher and they have children, one of whom introduced it into their home as there were 6 in his class with it. They still follow wearing masks and being careful, including making children of 8, 10 and 11 wear masks if out in public as they can clearly infect others. It's still far from over.

Hope you feel well soon

It’s so weird- here I am with ET double jabbed and well recovered after contracting Covid, after 1 week in fact, I tested negative on lateral flow on day 6! and others get it really bad. I do hope your brother makes a full recovery

So sorry! My husband and I (both fully vaccinated since April) got COVID last month after our kids picked it up at school. Thankfully it was mild - just sinus pressure and headaches, loss of smell and taste. I did qualify for the Regeneron treatment having ET, so I jumped at it. Didn't want to mess around with the chance of having a clot. Hope you recover quickly!!

So very sorry to hear you and your husband feeling so ill. We MPN sufferers know it has definitely not gone away, or going away! I was furious when I heard Boris had decided not to bring in Plan B especially when Scotland, Wales and Ireland were! I wrote to our MP but it won’t do any good, as you say, we’re just being thrown under a bus! Do hope you both recover very soon and hope the 3 vaccinations help lots. Best wishes Fran.

jointpain profile image

Hope you recover soon! You don't want to be one of the casualties that that idiot Boris feels we can "live with" I was disgusted when shopping yesterday. I counted at least ten people in an almost empty supermarket without masks, when one family of four wanted to push past at the checkout because they had not bought anything, I asked them to keep back as they were not wearing masks. I got a torrent of abuse. It seems the whole family had asthma!!?? Then the woman said that masks did not need to be worn! As they were in Wales and had Welsh accents, I was surprised that they were so ignorant. And surprised that they, being so vulnerable would go into a supermarket without buying anything.

It's no wonder the numbers of cases are going up.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. Can I just ask how do we access the regeneron treatment . I was wondering if we could get it due to us both having cancer treatment.

poly2 profile image
poly2

Thank you for all your kind words. I've done a little research and believe here in the UK it's called ronapreve. It's actually on the nhs gov website. I find it hard to believe we are not made aware of this treatment. Given how the clinically extremely vulnerable can be affected by this awful disease. Hubby and myself still not feeling any better but if we a don't pick up by tomorrow I will be calling the gp. Take care all

Hi all. Just to let you all know hubby's feeling much better. I'm still not great but better than yesterday. Hopefully it will be done with in a few days. Thank you all for your kind support. It really means a lot. Just heard on the news the cases are still going up and they're now giving the booster earlier than the 6 month wait from the last. I wonder why!!! I feel we have been misled and lied to all the way.

Rant over!! I must be getting better.

Take care

Hey Poly2...

Thanks for making the effort to share your information concerning reinfection & CV-19 transmissability even after x3 doses... Astounding!

I am based in Sydney, & have been carefully following world CV-19 related events for quite sometime because Australia largely fell behind in Vaccinating the population, in the first instance, (such is not the case now). However, what is transpiring there is obviously well-worth noting.

It must have been devastating for both you & your husband, & family to have to go through such a horrid experience after all those doses & vaccinations...

There is a recently released Lancet Article that sheds some light but not nearly enough, in my view... As essentially it really just suggests that continuing to observe all the safety protocols, (& especially for >60s), might well remain an ongoing concern for sometime to come... (?)

My very best wishes to you & all your family, & hopefully like the article suggests, may your symptoms be largely mild after so many vaccinations...

Steve
