Has anyone else gone through this ? Did you continue hydroxycarbamide?

hi Phil, I am so sorry to hear that you have Covid and feel so unwell, I hope that the antiviral meds work and make you feel better soon. I had Covid recently and did have the antiviral tablets, and did feel quite rough for a few days, with symptoms similar to yours, and was advised by my haematology clinical nurse specialist to rest, drink plenty of fluids, take paracetamol for my temperature and to continue with my hydroxycarbamide. I would suggest that you contact your haematology department and ask to speak to one of the clinical nurse specialists for advice. Wishing you well, Maz
Thanks so much really appreciate the advice I’m struggling with the cough and my oxygen levels keep fluctuating between 92 & 87 I spoke with the team on nhs England today and explained my concerns for attending a hospital with the oxygen levels
In a prior post you mentioned getting an antibody test. Did you get to that?
On the anti virals, you're likely referring to paxlovid and Molnupiravir. You're right that the latest info shows Pax to be preferred in vaccinated patients.
For Pax:
"even in highly vaccinated populations, treatment with the antiviral drug reduced hospitalization and death by nearly half. "
hi thanks for the reply I’ve been vaccinated 6 times my antibodies came back at 48%
I’m on Molnupiravir 8 capsules a day 4 mornings and nights I’m still struggling 2 days in on them my nose just dripping my oxygen levels between 87 lowest upto 93 but I’m not going near any hospital in this present situation I’d probably end up worse off and catching other illnesses
I’m falling out of love with the nhs and people going round thinking they have a cold but actually have Covid no one tests anymore the majority arnt really bothered the rules have gone it’s a sad situation for anyone vulnerable
I also always wear a mask in any public space. But it works only if it's a well fitted N95 or similar type, the simple blue ones don't work that well, if there is any gap at the nose for example it's not going to keep stuff out. This is why we often hear "masks don't work", details matter.
I use this one "3M Aura Particulate Respirator 9205"
It's not fashionable, but fits well and allows really easy breathing. I can use it for multiple weeks of occasional use.
Hi my oxygen this morning is 95 my cough has gone but my throat is roar hurts drinking but that’s an improvement
I use the medical mask with nose clip tightly moulded round when in shops it’s kept me safe for 2 1/2 years
I’ve got my phone consultation on the 28 th should be interesting as I’ve stated my disappointment in my care in an email to the secretary of my Haematolygist
Hello, I had COVID last year before vaccinations and antivirals were available, with oxygen levels similar to yours. I rang 111 and they sent an ambulance, which then took me to hospital, where I spent a total of four days on oxygen and various powerful drugs. It turned out I had pneumonia. So please don't suffer at home with those oxygen levels.
I’ve just lost complete faith in the nhs me and my partner both have Covid I’ve wore masks in all shops for the duration of it and use sanitiser all the time had 6 vaccines
My oxygen is between 92/93 this morning but still no improvement in symptoms
I will give it to Tuesday now to see the course out of Molnupiravir which was second choice due to medication they said it’s 33% improvement on results of this the first choice gave 88% !!
I would keep a close eye on the oxygen levels, one doc told me near the start of Covid that if I got Covid and my oxygen sat went below 94 to get myself to a hospital, that advice maybe different these days but maybe wise to check with a medic
I send my oxygen levels to NHS England every day they rang Friday concerned regarding the figure but I told them I didn’t want to attend hospital due to ambulances queuing for 12 hours and beds being a problem then risk of other infections it’s a catch 22
I had Covid in September, I wasn’t as bad as you. After numerous phone calls I was told I didn’t qualify for anti virals. It’s amazing how some parts of the country and nhs trusts differ! I kept hydrated with plenty of water and paracetamol. I had a terrible sore throat. I gargled with tcp for a couple of days which sorted that out.
so sorry to hear you have Covid. I have had the vaccine plus 3 boosters and have had Covid 3 times!! I have teenagers in the home so I think I am just hyper exposed. I did take my Hydroxy the whole time, per my Dr.’s recommendation. Hope you start to recover soon.hang in there and Merry Christmas
My husband had 5 COVID jabs. He went for his crossmatch and flo test before his transfusion last week. So was informed he had COVID. I spoke to his nurse and it was arranged his blood transfusion was given somewhere else. He had a slight cough and cold. No high temperature nothing else. I was negative. He goes nowhere. So I was really surprised he had COVID without his flo test at hospital we would never have known. At the moment flo test are being done at our day unit, but unfortunately this is changing from 9th January. My husband under the QE Birmingham.
Hi Phil - I had covid after 4 vaccines in September, but luckily I was not as poorly as you are-keep taking the anti-virals ,keep warm & hydrated too & stay positive1 hope you soon feel better.
Hope you get better soon! My health conditions (thrombocytosis controlled by HU, solo kidney from renal cell carcinoma resulting in CKD level 3) showed that Pax was contradicted. After 3 days of mild/moderate symptoms and not wanting to get worse, I convinced the infectious disease doctor to approve the monoclonal antibodies infusion because of the contraindications. She said that the local hospitals are short staffed and the antibodies were limited but agreed that I did qualify and got me in. You might want to search for Pax contraindications online. After the MA infusion, I felt way better in 24 hours- almost symptom free, but continued to test positive for 10 more days. A significant number of Americans have decided not to get boosted for various reasons including several studies that show a higher incidence of Covid amongst those that have received multiple (e.g. 5+) jabs. Now that I have had Covid, I feel I got boosted. I’ll be asking my MD for a blood test to determine the level of Covid antibodies in a couple months. Hopefully future strains will continue to be less virulent.
Did you get the MA recently? I've read that the MA is no longer effective on the current variants. But if you just did well on it recently that would show it's still working.
The current bivalent booster is helpful since it addresses the Omicron that is in all recent Covids. But of course not everyone gets the same benefit.
Hi I’m on Molnupiravir I couldn’t take the first choice because of Apixaban I’m on but certainly feel better today just bit flu like weak and blocked up now cough has settled 👍
