3rd Jab Scotland?

Reading a lot of posts about the 3rd jab but most relate to England. I'm wondering if anyone in Scotland has had theirs yet? Was it by invite or walk-in? I have tried ringing my local surgery but was told they don't do Pfizer so know nothing about it and just to wait for a letter. I'd love to hear others' experience?

Interesting, thanks. I'm under Tayside Health Board and still waiting. Think I'll give it until the end of the month before stressing too much!

Hi Denice,I'm in Tayside as well. My Gp surgery just say I will get a letter in due course!

Sounds like Tayside are on the slower side of things Sue😕. I'm actually seeing my hem in Perth today for regular check up but might try just popping into Dewars walk-in centre afterwards with the Blood Cancer UK/MPN letters and seeing if they'll give me my 3rd jab. They can only say no!

I'm in Perth too Denice, please let me know if you have any success. Good luck 🤞xx

Yes I had mine in Edinburgh on 9th October at a mass vaccination site. They were doing Moderna that day. I showed them a printout of the Blood Cancer UK letter about it only being a half dose and not acceptable. However the vaccinator was aware of this and explained they were giving a full dose of Moderna to those having a third primary vaccine.

I had a letter and leaflet clearly identifying I was to have a third primary vaccine and as things stand we'll have a booster in 6 months.. My husband who was with me was given the half dose of Moderna as a booster. I listened very carefully! I certainly felt as if I'd had a good dose as I was very shivery and achey for 36 hours - husband just had a sore arm, but that is anecdotal.

It does seem very patchy in Scotland. My appointment was up online on the NHS Inform vaccination record site about 4 days before the letter came but it didn't identify what I was being invited for - could have just been the flu one - so the actual letter was a relief.

Great that you got your third dose and that you were so well prepared 🙂. Like you say, it does seem a bit patchy here but it's such a big challenge, with the flu shots too, I shall try to be patient!

Yes I had taken note of other posts here and printed out the letter!

Kinda glad it's not just me then Tartan lady! Sounds like different health boards are at different stages just now. Hopefully we'll hear something soon.

Yay - that's fantastic news! I didn't get round to trying a walk-in the other week but am going to try in Perth today, armed with all the letters. Wish me luck!

I got the blue envelope just over a week ago and my husband who is fit and healthy has received his too for next week!

Nothing here in Aberdeenshire either DENICE66. The struggle I had to get my first jab was a long and fruitless process, being shoved from GP to hospital and back again. Both blaming the health board, saying it was up to them whether I was classed as vulnerable. By the time I got mine I was in the age group being processed anyway. Anger and stress did me no favours and so I'm patiently waiting !!!

What a nightmare Mica!😱 I had a similar experience with my first jab too and it was only after I sent the Blood Cancer UK/MPN letters to my GP that I was 'coded' to the priority category and got an invite. I'm assuming I'm still in the correct category for the third jab as my son (who's 15) got an invite letter early on because he was identified as "living with someone that has a condition that leads to immunosuppression", (ie, me!). He's just had his second Pfizer jab 🙂. While we're still waiting on our third though, maybe you should try sending the letters to your GP admin team asking them to check your coding is correct, rather than asking about the jab? That's definitely something in their remit and should at least ensure you're on the right list.

I fear having gone through a rally of letters previously that took over a month to obtain any kind of reply it would just add anger and stress to my life. Fiery Aries temperament is currently quite cool having taken up yoga again after 20 years absence but the 'witch' is never completely gone! 🤣

I can relate Mica 🤣🤣...although as a Cancerian crab, I just get quietly grumpy!🦀

Where are you in Aberdeenshire Mica11 and who is your consultant?

Mica11 profile image
Mica11 in reply to Tartanlady

I live in Inverurie but attend Aberdeen Royal Infirmary under Dr Preston, my haematologist.

Tartanlady profile image
Tartanlady in reply to Mica11

I'm near Huntly and my consultant is Dr Culligan but quite often get Dr Lawrie and some I've never heard of before which is a tad annoying 😝

Mica11 profile image

Not seen my consultant for 2 years, had a phone appointment last year, haven't heard of either of yours before. Rapport with your consultant is very important, so I understand your annoyance as they know little about you.

My telephone consultation was from Dr Preston on Tuesday. Nice enough guy.

I've seen him at all my face to face appointments except one since diagnosis and have found him calm, pleasant and most importantly willing to listen to any questions I may have. Obviously not seen him for a couple of years now but I think for peace of mind and continuity seeing the same doctor is definitely preferable.

I’m also under ARI, with another consultant. I had a fight for shielding but after that my invitations have been smooth.

Where do you live? Do u get the same consultant each time?

I live in Aberdeen and get the same consultant every time. I’m on pegasys which might make a difference.

Got a call for vaccination here in Edinburgh on 31st Oct. Hope you get yours soon.

Great news Bullace🙂. May I ask where the call came from? Was it NHS Scotland or your GP?

Bullace profile image
Bullace in reply to DENICE66

It was by text from NHS Scotland Test and Protect . I had to jump through hoops though as my GP had not coded me correctly to begin with. They did put it right quickly in the end.

Good to know, thank you. And glad you got your coding sorted - eventually!

Hi there, I'm in Dumbarton - NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Been called for third on Sun 31st. Been told it will be moderna or Pfizer. Had AZ x2 before. Quite a bad reaction to 2nd dose so wee bit concerned about this . Funnily enough i came off my hydroxy day before n on day of 1st dose and took paracetamol. Was ok - just a wee bit off. Didn't do that 2nd time and had horrible reaction - vomiting etc - so am a wee bit concerned. Anyone else had similar? CA

Great you have a date Carlyjo🙂. Maybe your reaction to second jab was a good sign...showed your body reacted? Hope the next is better though!

UPDATE: So...a 'blue' letter eventually arrived, but offering a booster along with a flu vax. Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I went along for the appointment today, armed with the MPN and Blood Cancer UK letters. Luckily, they were doing full dose Pfizer anyway so all I had to do was ask the nurse to make sure it was entered as my '3rd dose', rather than booster, on my record and voila! Meanwhile I've emailed my health board to ask them to check my coding. It's very weird as I don't seem to have had a '3rd dose priority' invite this time round but my son (who's 15) was invited to have his jab a few months ago as he'd been identified as living with someone who was immunosupressed (ie, me). My only challenge now is to make sure I am indeed coded correctly so I get the right follow up in terms of a booster, as and when that happens for us. I'm Tayside health board if anyone's wondering. And celebrating tonight with a nice G&T!
