Im male 58, jak2 and Et, diagnosed about a year ago after a dvt.
Currently on 500mg hydroxy for 5 days a week and 1000mg for 2, with daily aspirin.
All my numbers are now in normal range and steady. No side effects at all to medication I know of.
I recently had a general wellness check which suggests I have mild hypertension with readings which while not awful are definitely higher than those of a few years ago. I have no other health etc changes I’m aware of.
Does anyone with my diagnosis/ medication have any experience of either the illness , the medication or both causing an increase in blood pressure?
All the best.

I did not have an issue with hypertension when I had ET. I did develop stage 1 hypertension when it progressed to PV and my blood was hyperviscous. Controlling the erythrocytosis and losing 50 pounds brought my BP back to the normal range. I do not believe that the meds would cause hypertension. Whatever is going on may not be caused by the ET, but it could elevate risk if not controlled. Hypertension is definitely not something to ignore. Hope you get answers soon.
I am 72 and diagnosed early this year with JAK2+ ET. While MPNs can cause a lot of difficulties, age does also. I was in my mid 50s (long before ET) when my PCP convinced me that it was a good idea to start taking a BP medication. As Hunter said, keeping hypertension under control is a very good endeavor as it prevents serious damage to many "worthwhile" organs, including your kidneys, heart, and brain.
