There is an interaction between aspirin and ibuprofen to be aware of.

Avoid/Use Alternative

ibuprofen + aspirin

avoid aspirin >325 mg/day; otherwise, monitor bleeding s/sx, renal fxn; give ibuprofen dose >400 mg 8h before or at least 2-4h after low-dose aspirin ER: combo may incr. risk of GI ulceration, perforation, bleeding (incl. life-threatening), renal impairment, other adverse effects; ibuprofen may inhibit cardioprotective effect of low-dose aspirin (additive effects; possible competition for platelet binding sites)

I would expect the interaction would be minimal with a topical application, but think it would be better to use other options. There are topicals that you could consider. The issue is that most ant-inflammatory agents are also blood-thinning and potentiate aspirin.

I have had more success with Curcumin for treating osteoarthritis than anything else. It also potentiated aspirin, but not too much to tolerate. Like all things, it is a matter of risk/benefit analysis and using good judgement.

Hope you find relief.

Hi, I also have arthritis in my feet and ankles. I am on aspirin and used to use ibuprofen gel with no problems. However, like Hunter, since I started taking curcumin around 3-4 years ago the pain has become much more bearable and I rarely use the gel anymore.Karen

Nick, add boron as well as magnesium glycinate and Delta tocotrienol to the list with the curcumin your using.. Curcumin and Delta tocotrienol are JAK2 inhibitors and STAT3 blockers. Search each as it applies to arthritis as well as other health issues. Another to learn about for arthritis and MPNs is quercetin. Do an additional search on quercetin with Delta tocotrienol and senescent cells. You can also benefit soaking your feet and ankles in Epsom salt with a tbsp of baking soda for 15 to 20 minutes. Use more than a pinch of Epsom salt. Always consult with your health care professional brfore using any supplemens.

hi Tilly_Rose, you can get advice about this from your local pharmacist, they will be happy to advise you on any contra-indications with any medication you are taking, even if you are just on aspirin, and they can then advise you on the best options with regards to gels etc you can use. Best wishes, Maz

If you've got arthritis, my best advice is avoid the antibiotic Ciproflaxin and the entire quoline family of antibiotics because gout and arthritis are risk factors for it. I'm still healing tendons in 14 places after taking one pill, 5 months later. I also can't take my MPN medications because of it messes up the P450 pathways. Hydroxyurea, analgredine, and jakafi all hit me with extreme side effects now, even at 1/4 dose. I've resorted to machines to filter out platelets!
