Raised platelets after jabs

Hi , I have a friend who also has ET ,had both jabs , she noticed platelet levels had risen after both , wondering if anyone else had noticed the same

No increase for me after either Pfizer dose - if anything mine were a bit lower but I’m not sure there’s any link to the jabs

HI, Yes my platelets rose quite a bit after each jab. But they have gone down again now.

It is expected for platelets to rise immediately after a vaccine since it sends the immune system into a reactive state fighting an “infection”. Platelets go up under these conditions.

However, after the immune response is over, many people are reporting a drop in their baseline platelet count after these vaccines. Quite interesting.

Oh I wonder if a rise in platelets after jab corresponds to increased immunity🙄

I have been recently diagnosed with pvt too, I suppose that could be put down to all sorts though.

Oh, I am having telephone consultation today, hope mine aren't raised as really am happy with the dosage of HU I take. I will certainly raise this question with him.

Only had one jab , second due next week ,I was a bit reluctant when it was temporarily banned , still am if I’m honest but made my decision to have it ,

Hi, sorry for delay had to get away on holiday after consultation. Amazingly, my platelets have dropped by 80, first time ever!

I have ET and platelets that were stubbornly between 700-800 for some time now. Imagine my surprise when I had bloods done last week and my platelets had reduced by 200 since last blood test which was 6 weeks ago (which also showed a reduction by 50 from the bloods taken 6 weeks before that)! I had the Pfizer jab, first dose in Feb and second in May. Could be that the whopping dose of Interferon I inject each week is finally kicking in, or could it be the jab? Who knows!? I am pleased but cautious, perhaps they will elevate again

Have you recently started interferon? If you’ve already posted then excuse the question I’ve the memory of a pea. I’ve had 3 doses if it and my platelets are responding beautifully

Hello. I have ET too and my platelets rose to their highest ever level (850) after one Pfizer dose. Have since fallen back into the 600s, which is their lowest level in three years, so a lot of fluctuation.

Just to add a wry note here - this thread is about COVID vaccines??? and what is or is not happening afterwards.I think the explanation for rise of platelets after any vaccine is understood - but who can tell me about the reduction?? Why is this happening? Just asking

Well I don't know if these platelets reductions have been as a result of Covid vaccines, it seems a common thread doesn't it? I had Pfizer jabs, first end Jan and second end April, there certainly seem to be a fair number of people recalling reduced platelets on here don't there?
