Yes to having dental work done. The HU is not a big deal as the dentist will be avoiding contact with your blood anyway, You may need to discontinue the aspirin for 3 - 7 days before the procedure to avoid excessive bleeding. Consult with your dentist and hematologist about that. Also be aware that you may get a bit of reactive thombocytosis following the procedure, but not a big deal. This is a normal response and is temporary,
Hope the procedure goes well.
Thank you. What do you mean May get a bit of reactive thombocytosis. Blood clotting?
Reactive thrombocytosis = the body's response to bleeding, injury, or inflammation. It is normal, but has different implications if your platelet levels are already elevated. Bear in mind that it is normal for platelet levels to vary by as much as 100K in a single day in response to what is going on in your body. Whether this would increase your risk of thrombosis depends on your presentation of the MPN. There is also increased risk of hemorrhage when your platelet levels go up.
It seems unlikely that there is any significant degree of risk with dental procedures like an extraction or implant. There is definitely significant risk to untreated dental issues. It is best to review this with a MPN specialist. I would not hesitate to have the dental work done, just do it in consultation with your MPN care team.
Hiya, I also take aspirin and Hydrea and did not have any problem during my dental implant problem. I stopped taking the aspirin one or two days before without any issue. Good luck to you.
Greetings from Fleetwood England. My dentist took steps following consultation with my team.
Five days prior to my implants I was told to discontinue my aspirin.
It did not effect my hydroxi.
Hope this helps you.
Regards.
