Hi i do not know if you are Sheilding or not if you are I stay in Scotland and i quote that if you take your shielding letter to your employer and this will act as a sick note it will save you going to your gp and ask for a sick note hope this helps as it is a government document and your employers cannot argue with a letter from the Government as you are doing what is asked of

stay safe

best wishes Scottish terrier

Thanks for that.

I am shielding. I had a long chat with my Heamo Nurse then a short chat with my boss and it all seems sorted now. The problem is that my boss is a little too much like Donald Trump,if you know what I mean . So I wanted to know exactly where I stand legally.

New letter From Government says can return to work from August 1st for the shielded group.

Hard to respond without context. What kind of job? What kind of pressure? How much internal pressure do you feel? How much of your kind of work can you do remotely?

The bottom line is that there are legal protections if you are still under government guidance to shield. Once that is lifted, you likely will have to return to work in the absence of legal medical justification. There may be ramifications beyond the legal. Not sure if perhaps that is an issue. Perhaps concern about impact on the relationship with your employer?

Some people with MPNs had to continue to work in essential service positions. Others, like myself, have been able to work completely remotely without an issue. I do hope you are able to do what you think you need to do. Stay well and stay safe.

Thanks Hunter.

It all seems sorted now. It all seemed sorted months ago but my boss has a tendency to completely contradict what he says. I just wanted to know of any ones experience of having to return to work whilst shielding and legal responsibility of employer and their behaviour.

Thanks again

Hi

Yep, I've been pressured all the way through, my manager questioned my shielding letter and then again when it was extended. He asked me to go in to the office for a meeting which I refused so he came to my house instead. He believes that having ET isn't serious enough to be off as I'm not on medication so should go back. I've obviously refused which is causing problems.

In England a second Gov.letter has arrived detailing how Shielders can move slowly out of lockdown. Returning to work (if not able to work from home) is possible provided the place is “Covid-safe...” See gov.uk/access-to-work for more information. The letter covers the period up to 31st July and can be shown to your employer. I hope yours has arrived.

If you are from Scotland would think English letter would be the same it states if yoou cannot work from home our advice is for you to stay at home and not go to work this letter is evidence for your employer you can not work outside the home you do not need a desperate fit note from your doctor this letter comes from our interim chief medical officer

hope this works Stay safe

best wishes
