Hi Maz, maybe everyone knows the following but my daughter who is a teacher has just received a message from nhs to say that nobody should take anti inflammatory meds if they think they have covid 19 as it can cause illness to turn severe particularly in young people. Can you verify this please as I dont want to post incorrect info but aware a lot of people may be on aspirin which they need to make sure is still safe to take. Apologies if this info is already known. Kind regards Aimexx😻😻

Glad the question has been asked. I’m on clopidogrel and heart sank when I heard what the nhs had said.

I’m on clopidogrel too, but we take a small dose 75 mg once per day, not a huge dose 4 times per day.

Hi Aime,

Dr Hilary said on ITV, this morning, do not take anti inflammatories like ibuprofen, aspirin etc as the body needs inflammation to fight the virus. Take paracetamol. Makes sense to me.

Seems a bit odd that Dr Hilary says body needs inflammation to fight Covid. He's a GP not a specialist.

Guys, dont stop anything until Maz confirms but I think it is factually correct but just wait until we hear from Maz. Aime xx😻😻

I thought there is not yet enough data to be conclusive, UK sitting on the fence?

Aime profile image
Aime in reply to Paul123456

My daughter was told French government and others have issued a warning but uk government advice was to take paracetamol but they didn't say anything else. My daughter was told youngsters in Cork had ended up very ill after taking ibuprofen to ease covid symptoms. I didn't want to hold onto that info just in case someone on the forum became very ill. Kindest regards Aime xx😻😻

Aime. The BBC is reporting that a number of stories about Covid-19 and Ibuprofen are false and are being spread by social media. We all need to check with reliable sources of information before acting on what is going round social media or word of mouth.

The key message is to use paracetamol to help manage the symptoms of a Covid-19 infection.

I agree with you, don't listen to non specialists and various people on ITV.

Youngsters in Cork was fake news ignore it

Ok thank you. My info came from my daughter who is a teacher and the school were sent this from nhs so not sure what’s going on but Maz will sort out for us. Kind regards Aime x😻

The NHS website says that low dose asprin is not normally considered to be a Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug.

nhs.uk/conditions/nsaids/

The NHS advice is to take paracetamol to help reduce the symptoms of a Coronavirus infection. The NHS is also advising that people who are taking asprin for existing health issues should keep taking it.

nhs.uk/conditions/coronavir...

Remember anyone taking asprin to manage their MPN is doing so to manage their risk of thrombosis, stay well and keep out of hospital.

Stopping asprin would be taking a known risk to your health to avoid a theoretical or even non existent risk.

Thats exactly what I read, people taking low dose aspirin for health reasons to carry on taking it, thats the 75mg dose. In any case nothing as been proven regarding Ibrufon, they are being cautious. Atb,tina.🤗

Hey Aime... :-)

Great question...

Ruxolitinib (Jakafi), that myself and many others are presently taking, kind of acts like an anti-inflammatory...

I am curious what Prof. Harrisson might have to add in this regard too Maz...

Thanks & best wishes all...

Steve

My husband is on ruxolitanib too.

I would think someone would call the patients on this medication if it's not safe .

socrates_8 profile image
socrates_8 in reply to tracey13

Hi Tracey... :-)

I did NOT say that Jakafi is not safe...

I believe that we could use some clarification is all...

I am not aware of the dose your hubby is on Tracey, however, getting off Ruxolitinib (Jakafi) requires a 'tappering-off' period too, as it is known to cause a few complications by 'Ruxolitinib Withdrawal Syndrome - RWS' ...

My Jakfi dose is often bumped up & down, and the RWS is a real consideration for anyone on Jakafi, or at least it should be in my view...

Keep in mind also, that for me... Jakafi gave me back some Quality of Life (QoL)...

And I do not really want to try something else at this juncture...

So, I would just like to know what Prof. Harrisson thinks is all...

Stay calm Tracey, we are all in good hands here... 8-)

Its manic I'm not reading up on anything at the minute .

Yeah I'm ok about it all just following government advice .

It's all just panicking everyone at the minute .

It's just a matter of wait and see.

Keep safe 😉

There is a good "myth buster" article on this on the BBC website

bbc.co.uk/news/51929628

This appears to be a good source and highlights the fake news being spread

Hope it helps

Thanks for that John, most informative!

Aime in reply to Ovingite

Thank you John. and ApplesnPears. The information I received from my daughter was official nhs info which had been circulated to schools in our area. I posted to raise awareness should it be correct but did ask for the official line from Maz and asked everyone to wait for that info. I did not sit on the info in case as the school were told to pass it on to community.

Kindest regards Aime xx😻😻

Oh this is so important as my husband is on daily asprin too.

Might be worth a note that people take ibuprofen/painkillers in fairly high doses at regular intervals to control a fever. Whereas a lot of aspirin users only take 75mg once a day

Tico profile image
Tico in reply to Timjonze

Very important point you've made Tim and people should always take the'ye medication unless told not to by the'ye Gp or Haematologist. Keep well all. Atb,tina🤗

The aspirin used in our condition as a mini amount. It is a blood thinner in the prevention of clots forming in our circulatory system.

Not anything to do with reducing temperatures.

This is why you should only take your meds with your team support. Try to be confident in your team.

Discion making processes is a team thing supported by informed choices.

Hope this helps.

There is a lot of official info on this topic in internet. The worst anti inflammatory is ibuprofen. Apparently Paracetamol is ok. Please stay healthy everyone.
