ET typically involves raised platelets with other blood parameters within the normal range

You should be discussing your diagnosis with your haematologist. They will have all of your test results, not just blood counts.

The different types of leukaemia are characterized by elevated numbers of white blood cells. Elevated platelets are not a characteristic of leukaemia. In fact for most types of leukaemia platelet numbers tend to be lower than normal.

Diagnosis will also involve looking at blood sampkes under a microscope to check the appearance of the different types of blood cell.

I have ET CALR and my white cells were constantly elevated for 7 years. After taking care of my overall health for 2,5 years, I’m finally in the upper normal range for 6 months already. My haemos (I settled on the 5th, who I really trust) have all said that slightly elevated white cells are typical for my illness and nothing to worry about.

Hope to have helped.

Hi Sinylg, you said on a previous post a few months ago that you were waiting for the results of your bone marrow biopsy, I assume that you have had those results and that your haematologist has discussed the results with you. It would be best to discuss your concerns with your haematologist or the haematology nurse specialist, so that you have clarification about your diagnosis. Best wishes, Maz

It’s always a good idea to have a list of questions that you’d liked answered for your next appointment. If your doctor doesn’t take time to answer, brushed them off, he/she can’t answer or you don’t feel you’re in good hands, it might be a good idea to look for another haemo. Your peace of mind is important for your health. Also, make sure you educate yourself on all the basics of your illness. 🙂
