Hello, my wife had very high blood platelets. We are looking for something that will lower them. I am wondering if CBD might help. Thank you
High platelets: Hello, my wife had very high blood... - MPN Voice
High platelets
Has your wife got an MPN? If not, this is most likely not the place to ask this question.
Hi.
High platelets are certainly an indicator of Essential Thrombocythemia (ET) which is a Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN). This is a rare chronic form of blood cancer.
Has your wife seen a haematologist and what is her diagnosis?
Having high platelets may be a sign of serious disease. CBD will not lower the platelet count. It is imperative to get a proper diagnosis and management. All the best.
Thank you, yes my wife is under the care of a good Hemotologist. She has the ET diagnosis and we were explained that her Jac-2 was not right. They are giving her a medication and weekly blood test to monitor the platelet count. She has had the high platelet count for 10 years. Until recently there has been no symptom we were aware of. Recently there appear to be blockages in her legs causing circulation issues. This resulted in a heart attack which she has come through excellently and is taking blood thinners. No damage to her heart thank god. The first week on the ET medication has reduced her count from 850 to just under 750. We are hoping this trend continues.
Thank you for your replies.
This health challenge came to light due to a sore on her index toe that wouldnt heal or respond to treatments. I mention this to warn others it can be a signal of poor circulation. Quite painful. Her sugar is excellent so a scan was done discovering blockages.
Wishing you all much success and the happiest Holidays.

So pleased to hear your wife is under the care of a good haematologist. And excellent news that she has recovered so well from the heart attack with no lasting damage.
Yes, drug treatments like Hydroxycarbamide (often referred to here as Hydroxy or HU) are very effective at lowering platelet counts - and it acts very quickly. You might find your haematologist adjusts the dosage as the weeks / months progress. This is entirely normal.
For more information / advice check out mpnvoice.org.uk. MPN Voice is the patient charity here in the U.K. (not sure where you live). It moderates this Forum and has lots of good, sensible (and reliable!) advice on its website.
Please keep us posted. Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season.
Ebony has given you an excellent reply. Good luck
High platelets is our bone marrow over produce platelets. Ebony was right. Your wife need to go to a haematologist (MPN specialist)as soon as possible to get proper diagnose and treatment. All the best.
I've been taking CBD oil for a few months, it has helped lower the severe pain I get from my arthritis but not affected my platelets either way.
Hi, so glad you are being monitored by your medical team. I too have ET. I am 66female, diagnosed 3 years ago.
My levels are now normal.
The medication for me was Asprin, and Hydra. I see my team 3 monthly, hoping for another 2years at this level.
Tell your wife that this a good site but keep in touch with your team never alter you treatment without supervision. Take care.
