Platelets
Congrats on the birth of your baby. As I recall platelets (along with just about everything else!) can go a bit off kilter during pregnancy. As you’ve been told the expectation is that they will return to normal. There all kinds of reasons why platelet counts can be elevated. Mostly this has nothing to do with MPNs. I think that there was a similar post about this not very long ago. The search facility isn’t great on this Forum but do check. All the best.
Congratulations on the new baby. An elevation in platelets is not a big surprise. Any significant bleeding, inflammation and tissue damage can trigger the body to make more platelets. It is a natural response to insult or injury. Unless you already had thrombocytosis present, it will likely not be a big deal. Reactive thrombocytosis can be more of a concern if you have ET or PV, but even then will likely clear as your body recovers. Would not worry too much about this. Enjoy your new baby instead. All the best.
Thank you so much, I should also point out it was an emergency cesarean I had
Makes the platelet elevation even more likely an expected reaction. Will likely take your platelets a few weeks to stabilize and return to baseline. You may also see white blood cells (leukocytes) go up to protect your body from infection. Another normal response. Hope your recovery goes well and your are soon back on your feet. Newborns are a true blessing and delight, but a whole lot of work. Raised two myself and am blessed with one granddaughter. Many blessings to you and prayers for s speedy recovery.
