I had a physical exam and my platelets came back 447, the doctor retested it and they came back 417 is this cause for concern

I am surprised he retested. I suggest you ask the doctor what concerns him about your blood work. For some labs your counts are at the high end of normal and platelet counts bounce around a lot. I would not be concerned unless your doctor is concerned.

He retested because the labs normal range for platelets was 150-400. So it was elevated according to that labs range for platelets

Hi Sral, nice to meet you,

I hope you are feeling well. It amazes me when I see others results. Yesterday my platelet level was 11. yes 11. I am transfusion dependant and have a mega bag of platelets via transfusion each week after I have my bloods. Most weeks I now have to have a bag of packed red cells also. It would be really helpful to have someone advise us of the variances and how one transitions between the volumes. It seems like such a gap. What are the indicators for us as the patients as we move through these variances. ??

Most labs list 450 as the top o the normal range. Would suggest just keeping an eye on the CBCs and not sweat if a whole lot. Do keep an eye on all of the numbers, but assuming that platelets were the only thing of concern. Does not sound like cause for anything other than being aware.

The platelets were the thing that came back elevated beside my uric acid. Monocytes were on the high end of normal.

Hi Sral, you need to discuss this with your doctor. Maz
