I've been trying to sort insurance for my holiday. I explained I have Essential thrombocytosis jak2 +. I tried to explain it comes under the unbrella of a myeloproliferative neoplasm which the operator didn't understand? He asked me if I had essential thromobythaemia and I said my diagnosis is essential thrombocytosis?? The chap was not very helpful stating he wasn't medically trained?. Can someone please tell me what is the correct way to explain it to the insurance people as it appears its a tick box excercise and I want to make sure I've got the tick in the right box.
Many thanks

Actually, either way is correct. Essential Thrombocytosis or Essential Thrombocythemia...just make they never say thrombocytopenia. That's the mix-up I usually hear from the doctors.
Hi, I have ET Jak2. Have just come back from holiday and had insurance with Staysure who recognised my diagnosis straight away and it was really cheap!
I also have ETjak2+ and am going abroad in a couple of weeks. I have just recently got my insurance from Get Going with no problems. They had it as Essential Thromocythaemia.
I have existing insurance with Cover for You and emailed them when I got the diagnosis. They said there was no change in policy cost but I have to get confirmation I am fit to travel before my next trip.
Just tell your holiday insurance company that you have Essential Thrombocythemia and it’s up to them to check it and decide whether or not to insure you with their medical team.
