Does it matter if you forget to take your aspirin for a couple of days?
Aspirin : Does it matter if you forget to take... - MPN Voice
Aspirin
No it is not a problem, but try not to forget to take to often, as it helps to keep your blood from getting sticky.
No! Clearly it’s a good idea to take the medicines you’re prescribed as and when they are prescribed! But there have been times when I’ve been told to stop the aspirin altogether - for example the week before a surgical procedure. I also took aspirin every other day for a long time. HTH.
We all know that having an MPN puts you at higher risk of heart attack/stroke so it is important to take aspirin or warfarin to stop any blood clots so I would say you should be taking your aspirin every day.
Aspirin takes a minimum of three days to clear your system. Most docs would have you d/c 7 days before a surgery to be safe. While best to not forget the treatment regimen you are on, missing the occasional day is unlikely to do you in. Like all things medication, the aspirin is a risk/benefit assessment. If it is best to take it, then best to take it as scheduled. FYI - I recently learned that there are some supplements that significantly potentiate the blood thinning effects of aspirin (e.g. Fish Oil). We all need to stay aware of such things as hemorrhage could be just as bad as thrombosis. All the best.
Hi Andrea. I think it depends on the amount of thrombos and your tendency to TIAs from or bleeding. Aspirin stays in your body for up to 7 days. You should be ok. All the best
