Wonder if anyone can advise please. I have been on hydroxy since 2012. I am lucky I only take 500mg twice a week. Never had any problems. However immediately after taking it tonight I was sick. Unconnected with the hydroxy, I have another stomach related condition. This has never happened before. Although I have had odd time I have had vomiting connected with a bug I have been lucky it’s never happened so soon after taking hydroxy.
So my question is should I take another or just wait until my next dose? My platelets are well controlled and been consistently in normal range for a while. So I am thinking just wait until my next dose later this week. Any thoughts gratefully received.
I would contact your Haematologist (or their office) or even the pharmacy that dispenses your medication and ask them if you should take another dose. It would depend on how soon you were sick after taking your meds. Do not take another one unless you have talked to someone, being on only 2 tablets a week it will not matter if you have your dose on a different day when you have found your answer
Hi Liz, Have you ever tried to have something to eat before you take the Hydroxy, I always eat before meds are due and I have to take quite a lot , it seems to work and I never get problems, worth a try, being sick is horrible, good luck and good health. also I would never take an extra one. june.
Thanks for replying June appreciate it. I do usually take it earlier than I did today. Usually very good at taking meds and never forget but for some reason suddenly realised I had not taken my hydroxy. Usually have something small to eat before I take it but did not today. That could be it but because of my gut/digestion issues I can get a gag reflex and I did eat later today than I usually do so that may have been it. Good advice and I’ll definately not take extra as you suggest, certainly not without speaking to my doctor / haem department. Thanks x
I was in Cleveland last week and saw Dr Gerds and his fellow Dr Patel at the cleveland clinic. I think they are both excellent. Dr Gerds was very friendly, explained everything . spent 1hr with me until I ran out of questions and that was after Dr Patel had already spent 45 min with my wife and I going over our records and questions. They are in the hematology dept at the cleveland clinic and they will be hosting a conference on mpn's that is open to the public, I think it is on May 22, I think it would be nice to attend that conference and meet him and the other people who will be presenting. You have to register if going, probably call the hematology dept. Good luck to you.
Thanks for responding Swede. I might look into Keffir myself might be good for my gut. I will ask Haem next time I see him in meantime decided not to take another tablet and just wait til next dose. Thanks
