MPN and Elimination Diet

I read this book called "The Six Secrets of Successful Weight Loss" by Dr John Mansfield.

In it is an elimination diet which is designed to discover food intolerances. These intolerances mask themselves so that one may not be aware of having them. The diet is very specific, will take about 6 weeks. For the first 7 days only foods from a given list are allowed that have not been problematic in Dr Mansfield's 30 year experience. One needs good digital scales and to weigh oneself first thing in the morning and also before an evening meal. The idea is that if one is intolerant of a particular food, consuming it would cause a sudden weight gain. I assume it is caused by water retention. So, after 7 days 2 food items per day, 9 hours apart, are added to the list of allowed foods. The items are very specific, for example cane sugar and beet sugar need to be tested separately, also white bread needs to be tested because of the chemicals in it. Glucose syrup needs to be tested, as does monosodium glutamite. I am bracing myself and making preparations to start this diet in a a couple of days and I will let everyone know how I got on.

Hi, this sounds very interesting. I have previously only heard of elimination diets done under expensive 'medical' supervision. It sounds like you will have to have to acquire lots of extra types of food and be highly organised and disciplined. Best of luck. What are you hoping to find out? Looking forward to hear how the results go.

Yes you have to be disciplined but not for too long, and any extras can be bought cheaply online, like monosodium glutamate, glucose powder. The only expense has so far been the digital scales costing £40. I made meals for the freezer so I will not have to go hungry.

Hi there,

I’ve been on a couple of elimination diets, and boy will you lose weight!

I mentioned before that I had massive problems with a 9 month course of antibiotics after which I was really really poorly, too many symptom to mention.

For 6 weeks I ate only organic chicken, decent lamb( not shoulder because it’s full of whatever they jab lamb with but it’s the least treated meat) organic rice, vegetables and salad.

Drank only water. No caffeine, no decaf which is chemically treated.

Long story much too long to go into here.

It isn’t easy, and it’s a very long job afterwards, because you can only introduce one food at a time and then wait two days for a reaction.

If you think you’re reacting to certain foods then it’s worth it, but if you simply want to lose weight there are easier ways!

I would suggest that you most certainly cut out all processed, packeted, pre made, chemical containing foods, and all alcohol and caffeine.

Not easy!

Turned out I have a rare conditon called MCAS and histamine intolerance.

Probably not connected with PV, medics not sure.

All the best,

Louise

In November 2016 I gave up tea, coffee, dairy, gluten and sugar and I lost 3st but since then I have not been able to lose any more, I'd like to lose about 1-2st. I have not been able to stick to no gluten, dairy and sugar completely and recently I have started to put weight back on again. I bought myself 3kg dumbels and 2kg ankle weights and started to train with those but it made me have sugar cravings. So now I will not do any weight exercise during this elimination diet.

Yes! Courageous. Congratulations Searcher56. I did my elimination with my functional doctor and dietician. I was given supplements, which are really important to help the body stay balanced and really find itself again. I have banned glucose syrup and MSG completely from our diets. They both make us brain fogged. MSG is an exitotoxin. Please read about that and what it does to the body. That takes out almost all processed foods. My doctor and dietician had me eliminate all grains, milk products, sugars and whatever caused histamine problems (which was a huge list) the first 2.5 weeks were awful. Always have loads of whatever you are allowed to eat ready to eat or cook. Believe it or not, we live in a world of immense culinary possibilities! Yum. After a month I added rice. At some point lentils. I made sure my gut was healed. Eliminating is great. I just think that 7 days is too little to readjust your system, but then again, I’m not sure how this diet works. Personally, I lost 16kg in 15 months. I really eat a lot, but my body just sheds 2-4 lbs. once in a while on its own. I’m not trying or counting any calories. I eat a lot of healthy fats, nuts, seeds, eggs, organic animal proteins and tons of veggies, some fruit, humus. Etc. I used to eat almost no fats and lots of carbs and dairy and spent my whole life craving carbs. The cravings have completely disappeared. I wish you a huge amount of success!! Let us all know. : )

Hello. What is your MPN? Did you start eating healthily before or after being diagnosed with MPN? I would like to hear your story in more detail. I started to look into diets after being diagnosed with ETJAK2+ in the belief that there is still some undetected inflammation going in my body somewhere and that the ET is curable. I am also looking into reducing exposure to electrosmog.

Hi Researcher! We definitely have the same mindset. This is wonderful. I have ET CALR. I was diagnosed around Oct. 2 and started changing my diet slowly on October 13th. I was able to change over completely within 2 weeks. There is always undetected inflammation. I achieved all I could through diet. Then I got rid of parasites, which we all have. Candida also in Check. When starting a heavy metal detox before removing my 20 amalgams and all 5 root canals, my body retaliated. We now assume that I have genetic problems with detoxification. I am getting this tested on Monday. The problem is called Kryptopyrrolurie KPU of HPU. Apparently 1/10 women and 1/100 men have this. These peoples‘ system unfortunately gets rid of Vit 6, Manganese and Zinc, which are important for the whole detox process. They have a constant deficit. Me too and my daughter and mother. To test for this there is a 24hr unreine test to see if B6 manganese and Zinc are in the urine. If so, the answer is simple. Supplement these 3 and you are on your way. Once that is settled, I can get my teeth done. This is probably the greatest inflammation that I still have. Still have to check for mold. Many people have chronic mold and don’t know it. EMFs are a big one. We reduced everything at home. We all sleep better. There’s a lot to be done. My doctor is leading me toward ozone and UV therapy in my blood. Cancer cells hate oxygen. Gotta go.

Have you done this ozone and UV therapy? What about your counts now?

Anag profile image
Anag in reply to Kelly2

Hi Kelly, I discussed this with my doctor. It’s on the agenda for the future. It is only good to try one thing at a time to keep good track of what the body is doing. Right now we will deal with the detox difficulties so that I can finally start getting my amalgams out. They‘ve been in there since I was 14/15. now I’m almost 54!! (The doctor I. The States obviously did a good job). The Ozon treatment is simple. 200ml blood out, Ozon and UV is added and then put back in. Firstly, this should help my red blood cells (I have the inborn anemia Beta Thalassemia-Low red blood cell count and small RBCs and Low hematokrit) carry more oxygen and cancer cells don’t like oxygen.

Just something I found about glycosesyrop. Actually, all sugar and grains which get turned into sugar in the body feed cancer. science.sciencemag.org/cont...

Blimey! You are a mine of information. I have information, too, I will write when I have a bit more time. Started the elimination diet yesterday, already lost 900g. What I really want to know if I am truly intolerant of gluten.

Anag profile image
Anag in reply to Searcher56

It has been proven through cameras sent into the Digestive system that gluten opens up a hole in every single person’s body that it enters. No matter how healthy, young or old. The question is, how fat can the body repair itself. At some point, everyone’s system will get to the point, where it can’t handle gluten any more. I was gluten intolerant for many years and never believed it. My immune system was on overdrive and since this problem comes I. Over many years we don’t recognize it, like many other things. We just know we don’t feel good. Once I got rid of all grains, I had a small bun of high quality of whole grain bread (4 months later) and my belly grew 2 sizes in 1/2 hour! Same with milk. The same thing happens with rye. Actually worse! My daughter too. Please listen to the following interview. Tom O’Bryan is the most respected specialist and speaker regarding gluten anywhere. m.youtube.com/watch?v=xMFGn...

I watched the video last night. I do not get any obvious problems when eating gluten but in 2016 I went on a diet of no tea, coffee, sugar, dairy and gluten and I lost 3st effortlessly, so I am now cautious about eating gluten. I read this book by Dr John Douillard called "Eat Wheat" where he maintains that gluten intolerance is caused by low hydrochloric acid or something like that. So nothing is really clear cut. I am on day 7 on the Elimination Diet. I lost 2kg in 2 days and since then I am only losing about 30g-50g a day. How can someone lose 2kg in 2 days unless it is water. Just goes to show how irritating some food items are to the body. Is it because of the histamine reaction that causes fluid retention?

Anag profile image
Anag in reply to Searcher56

It is never good to weigh yourself every day. Weight goes up and down depending on sweating, salt causing water retention, etc. I weigh myself 1-2 times/wk. sometimes once a month. I didn’t do my diet to lose weight, although I was 25kg overweight, but to get healthy. The weight loss came slowly (16kg over 17 months) but 3 kg came off the first week. When I had infections, my weight went up, but cane back down again. Much weight is due to inflammation in the body that causes oedema (water retention). When you remove foods that cause inflammation, there is often a sudden weight loss. If you eliminate for a longer period of time (2 month) then add gluten, you will habe better chances of knowing if you really have an intolerance or not. If you have an intolerance to gluten, it could take up to 72 days for your immune system (AK against Gluten) to calm down. All the best.

Well, this Elimination Diet relies on sudden weight increase as an indicator of inflammation. I think the early morning weight measure is fairly reliable, after fasting all night and then going for a pee before weighing. So far I have always lost weight every time I have weighed myself on my digital scales that give readings at 5g increments. Last night I added broccoli to the list of allowed foods and this morning pepper. In the evening I will have chicken and tomorrow morning, hurray, brown rice. At last I am having some grains.

Did you get all your old fillings pulled out? I read somewhere that it is not good to have them taken out all at once because it could cause too much mercury to be released in the body?

Anag profile image
Anag in reply to Searcher56

I am interviewing my dentist # 6 regarding mercury removal, tomorrow. It must be done in a specific way, else it can be very dangerous! Especially, when your mouth is full, like mine. You must swish a binder around your mouth and swallow, the tooth is isolated with a rubber sheet. Oxygen is in the nose and the nose clipped closed, since mercury becomes a gas when drilled! Special sucker to get the residue out. Special drill, mercury taken out carefully in as big pieces as possible. 1-2 teeth per minth. Will take almost a year in my case. Chelation therapy with Chlorella afterwards for a few days to make sure any mercury gets carried out of the body. Cement filling to help tooth get cleaner. After all‘s out, and the patient is in good, stable health, permanent solutions are discussed. Mercury is a killer. It must be taken out. Most dentists don’t know how or don’t believe there’s a problem. It’s crazy!

Here I am again. After seeing the changes in my health, my family also got on the diet and so did various friends. They are all healing from many things: Brain fog, bloating, diarrhea, high Cholesterine, depression, anxiety, fatigue. At the 11 month point, I started getting all chemicals out of my house. I make my own or buy all organic shampoos, soaps, creams, cleaning agents, etc. I have started healing my daughters dermatitis, fibromyalgia with natural substances like turmeric and true essential oils, etc. I threw out 2/3 of everything in our med cabinets and replaced them with natural substances. I’m getting rid of every inflammation causing anything in our lives. Our bodies can only take so much. At some point the pail fills and spills over and we all wonder why horrible diseases, intolerances and allergies are everywhere. It starts with what we eat and breath. We are lucky in Vienna to have the cleanest water in any city in the world. If your water isn’t clean enough, filter it or buy it. If the air is not clean, filter also. My eyes are now white as they were when I was a kid. It’s a lot of info. Small steps at a time. Good night. 😁 and good Lück.
