ARE NPNS CLASSED AS A DISABILITY?

I was browsing the information on the npn site and read NPNS are classed as a disability. I just wanted to check Ive read this correctly?

I don’t think so in England maybe other places in world. But I would told it was a chronic disease which it is.

They are classed as a disability regarding the Disability at Work act.

This is the statement you are referring to: The Equality Act 2010 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 makes it unlawful for an employer to discriminate against you because of your disability and since MPNs are classified as cancers, you are classed as disabled.

Hi maz thanks for the link it was a very informative read. Do you know how things normally proceed with this do I ask my Dr or the hematologist to confirm the diagnosis and give the confirmation to my employer?

first step is to speak to your HR department, if you have one, if not, then speak to your employer. You need to find out what the procedure /policy is that your employer has in place for this. Maz

Yes I have spoke to my supervisor and he asked me to get a letter from either the GP or hematologist I'm seeing my gp tomorrow for a different problem so I'll ask for diagnosis confirmation.
