Childrens flu precaution
The children’s nasal vaccine is live so you do need to be cautious for a couple of weeks. It doesn’t stop me seeing my grandchildren but I do steer clear of wiping runny noses and kisses.
I was told by NHS nurses who vaccinated children, in the school where I work, to avoid them for 24 hours. Consequently the school had to send me home.
Hope that helps. Xx
Gosh. Thanks for raising this. It hadn’t occurred to me! My youngest, should get the jab. If I can get him vaccinated at all! (Such a pain. Local pharmacies to his school can’t get supplies this year.)
Hi Ebot,
Jabs are fine as not live. The nasal spray is live but I don’t know what age they stop that and do the jab?
Hope you are ok. Xx
Yes, I know the jabs are OK. Just hadn’t engaged brain with the nasal spray / live vaccine train of thought. The problem is that teens aren’t eligible for the vaccine on the NHS. The NHS recommend the spray for under sixteens. Pharmacists won’t give (or possibly aren’t licensed to administer) the nasal spray. Catch 22. Fortunately this year pharmacists like Boots are offering the jab to 10 to 16 year olds. But only at certain stores. And then you have to book in person not online. And there seem to be supply issues. My GP is currently only offering the over 65s vaccine.
Anyhow, I’m good thank you. Hope you are too. Missing the coast and not lovin’ the cold, grey and rain!
Ha ha! I know, this weekend has been horrendous here! Hopefully some sun tomorrow.
Yes, my GP doesn’t have the under 65’s in yet. I went for a blood test on Friday and hoped to kill two birds with one stone, but no luck. Xx
Does this mean we need to avoid people who have the new shingles shot which is live? Katie
