Yesterday I visited my haemotologist after 3 months.Platelets were same, 1006 (only on plavix), but white blood cells count was 14 (normal upper range is 11). I am having mild skin allergic reaction for couple of days, so dont know its bcz of that or what?Dr. seemed kind of concerned, n again wanted to see me in a month..I am really worried, is my ET progressing to something more serious?I dont have any symptoms , all seems good, but just cant put my mind on peace..any insight plz..thanks a lot

It’s not uncommon to have a raised white cell count as part of an MPN. I’ve always had a raise count of 17-18 with my PV as well as raised platelets, so don’t worry yourself unduly.
If you have an infection of any sort that can obviously effect them as well.
Always good to keep an eye on any changes, high white cell count is a risk factor isn't it, if it stays high maybe review drugs, good luck. As someone else has said may be a blip esp if u have an infection/allergy that your white cells are fighting.
Raised white blood cell count could simply be due to an infection: have you been ill recently? But it could also be a sign that you are at risk of progressing. If I were you, if the upward trend in whites continues, I would discuss with your haemo the possibility of starting treatment for ET. My whites count had been increasing up to 11-12 and platelets were at 1.5 million when I started Pegasys - my haemo thought that the upward trend in the whites was also a factor in starting treatment. Good luck! Susana x
Hi susana , really appreciating your wise words.Yes very much agreed that upward trend can indicate starting ET treatment.Hoping for best, I am diagnosed few months b4 and dr. thinks I am low risk patient..Will see how things go.
My white cells went up to 17 alongside raised platelets and HCT. This as well as being Jak 2 positive brought my PV diagnosis and influenced the decision to start treatment straight away. I have been on interferon now for just over 3 months and all counts are within normal range. All the best.
