Hello everybody! I went to see my haemo today and my platelets have fallen to 600 ish from 1200 six weeks ago. I was wondering, if when they get within a normal range, if I would still have to take hydroxycarbamide. I think he thinks I will. What are anyone else’s thoughts or experiences please ?

Hi Juliet46, as far as I was told from my Haemo five years ago was yes you will have to take for the rest of your life, unless they change you something else, as with my case I can tolerate very well Hydroxy and my platelets are all normal have been for the last three years, so it must be doing its job.

Hi Juliet, yes you will have to keep taking Hydroxycarbamide, your platelets may go up and down and you will probably find that each time you have your blood test you will have a different level, this is quite normal, but you cannot stop taking the Hydroxycarbamide unless your haematologists tells you to. Best wishes, Maz
