A number of you have mentioned taking curcumin/turmeric for arthritis. I have tried to find the relevant posts but haven't been successful, so please, for those of you who do take it would you mind giving me some details,I.e. dose,. Capsules etc. and if it helped in any way. Thanks very much. All good wishes to everyone. Mary

Hey Mary... :)

I have tried quite a variety of alternative treatments, but not for arthritus but rather my MPN - MF.

Curcumin, was advocated as a miracle anti-inflammatory. Hence I tried it for circa three weeks with no noticeable change in any of my statistics.

However, as you may have heard here, once or twice, we can all react quite differently to a variety of medications and treatment regimes. Just because it was unsuccessful for me, one should not assume the same is true for us all... in my view... :)

Best wishes Mary

Hi Mary I have been taking curcumin with piperine for around 8-9 months and have found that the arthritis in my feet is hugely improved. I normally have steroid/pain killing injections twice a year but have not had one since being on curcumin. I still have pain, but so much less. I take Aava Labs 3 x 700mg capsules daily. I buy them from amazon. I am open minded about whether this is coincidence or curcumin but either way, it’s great. I started taking it because of stories that it is good for the blood, and again it could be pure coincidence, but my platelets have dropped by around 120/130 down to 265, since being on it. Good luck. Karen x

Have also been taking Turmeric for about 6 months, but intend to take it for rest of my life, having heard all the benefits! I use Pukka Organic, which have bought online. The capsules are 580mg each. Worth researching Circumin/Turmeric - lots on the internet. Friends are using it for arthritis, MPNs, anti cancer, even anti dementia....but, with these 'natural products' we have to remember they are not a quick fix, and probably need years (certainly months) to take effect. Best wishes to you. Tinkerbell.

Hello garden987,

Haven't the "health food" companies latched on to this for profit? Turmeric is readily available in the spice section of the supermarket, it was about 40p at Aldi. I bought gelatine capsules on-line and filled them- wearing thin Non-latex gloves to avoid the yellow stains. The dose on the first bottles I bought from Holland and Barrett was two capsules a day, I bought them in their penny sale.

Recently I have just put some in my small glass of diluted fruit juice at breakfast, about a capsule full.

I think it helps. My fingers are not so locked in the mornings. I buy fish oil capsules at Aldi too since I avoid the sun as it puts dark marks on my skin now I take Hydroxycarbemide. Many people in the UK are short of Vitamin D.
