Hello Bobadog,

I'm also taking one to two curcumin daily, what do you mean by preferences?

I usually take it while having a meal and in the evenings, the second one - if I take it - in the morning.

Cheers!

Curcumin, the active ingredient in Turmeric, is a very effective anti-inflammatory agent. It has worked better for me than any NSAID I ever took for osteoarthritis. Turmeric/Curcumin does cross readily into the bloodstream. It needs help to do so. Using a bioavailable formulation is important. There are several ways to do this. One of the more common is to include black pepper extract (piperine) in the formulation. There are other formulations that work. I use one called CurcuWIN, which is recommended by my Integrative medicine doc. The CurcuWIN formulations is available in a variety of brands.

Dosing depends on the formulation. I am using Spring Valley Brand Turmeric Curcumin w/ CurcuWIN. 550mg bid (2 caps 2x/day).

Hope the Curcumin works as well for you as it has for me.

Many thanks.I’ve been suffering from very acute low lumbar pain when my haematocrit is raised.>47(ie monthly )The pain reduces post phlebotomy .

I do suffer with an ongoing chronic disc problem which is usually controlled with exercises etc.The pain has been too severe recently, during the ‘flare ups’ to do the exercises.

The pain does respond well to strong NSAID, (Diclofenac)indicating this pain is an acute inflammatory response to the haematocrit rise?

It’s good to try and find an alternative to these drugs , on a regular basis.

Interesting to hear about your brand, as there are many on the market,

I shall try and source in the UK.

Very Many thanks again.

The inflammatory rise and the increased HCT are both caused by the dysregulation of the JAK-STAT pathway. In addition to making too many blood cells this causes our bodies to make too many inflammatory cytokines. Thus our propensity for various issues with inflammation. When you add the normal wear and tear of aging, we can have sorts of things that become issues. I also have back problems related to spinal deterioration. The curcumin does help. I also use massage therapy, which make a huge difference. I went to "back school" after an injury and learned to doe things in a better way to protect my back. I have also found that the practice of Qigong really helps with the back. It improves strength, flexibility and balance, but is gentle and promotes mindfulness.

Hope you find things that help.

Many thanks These are useful comments.

I also improved my back exercise programme ,with more ‘precise’ exercises which has helped ,when the pain is within the ‘normal’ pain threshold .

I shall investigate Qigong.

I am optimistic that the pain may decrease when my haematocrit levels settle, when I start Peg interferon treatment in October (25th) 45mg fortnightly

Thanks again,

Take care.

There is a lot to Qigong and many different forms. Here are the two I started with.

Taiji qigong 10 forms

Six Healing Sounds

Once the first two are learned, can move on the this.

Tai Qi Quan (Simplified Tai Chi 24 form)

If you are seriously interested in Qigong there is actually a lot to it. There is a lot of crossover into Nei Gong and Gung Fu. They are, in a sense, all different aspects and applications of the same principles. It helps to have a skilled Sifu (teacher) to learn from.
