I was diagnosed with ET last month and am on low dose Aspirin and Hydroxycarbamide 500mgs. Have only been on the Hydroxy for 3 days and am pleasantly surprised -no sickness etc. However, my brain feels a bit foggy so am feeling slightly detached. Will this go- any tips? Thanks. Suzy

Hi Suzy, I must admit when I first started on Hydroxycarbamide for a month or so I felt quite foggy headed, but as the years have rolled on, all is good no side effects as such, which is good for me as most drugs I have always reacted quite badly too, so am surprised at how well I have tolerated this one, long may it last as bloods are all normal and my Haematologist is really pleased with me.

Just make sure sure you drink at least 2ltrs of water a day, eat well, and try and keep fit this is very important for your well being, even if it is a brisk walk or some swimming this helps with the old fog and good for the body and mind. Ok I sometimes get a bit of fatigue now and then, so I listen to a mindfulness tape and this I find really helps with relaxation.

Thanks Jean, this is all new to me. I am a bit worried about my job if I feel like this so hopefully, it will pass soon.

Just give it time my friends, I take my tablets every day and two on Sat and Sun, without a second thought, as before I started on them I was constantly unwell sometimes seriously, and also working made it that much more harder to cope with as I was front of house for a very big building company and had to look my best everyday, hair done makeup on, but now I make sure that I look after myself as I feel I have a lot of living to do still, and grandchildren to chase after, plus I still do the hair and put the old makeup on keeping standards up is good for you and your state of mind, and it is great when friends say that I look really well.

So life is good and long may it last, never let things get you down, there are so many people on hear who have some good advise and who are in the same situation, so when you feel low talk to us, there will always be someone with an answer.

Take care there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Jean
