Loosing weight helped

Just wanted to share my experience having been long time migraine sufferer and tried beta blockers, epilepsy drug topiramate, amyltriptaline and always having to use sumatriptan which does work if i take it in time. I take 40mg amyltrip every eve which did reduce frequencies a bit over sev years.

But the big breakthrough was something not a single expert had suggested. Loose weight. I started teeny bitof running to loose big lockdown weight last june (nhs couch to 5k - brilliant ap)and have had almost no migraines since nov.. I only git rifd of about 7 kg. I still take the 40mg amyltrip. And maybe it was age.. But who knows. And this is the most migraine free ive been for a decade. I looked it up and there is an association. I was overweight.

Just wanted to share and i know loosing weight is v hard. I hated jogging at first. But it has helped.

it might be that you are consuming less processed food as that tends to be the trigger . Substances such as artificial sweeteners are neurotoxins. Nitrates in processed meat give me the worse headache. Glad to hear this has helped. I also noticed that I am better if I do intermittent fasting even though the neurologists advise not to skip meals

In my opinion, that “tiny bit of running” is the key factor. If you can make your heartbeat faster by running / jogging or cycling (even for a brief period) - there are evidence that it can work just as good as some of the well known preventatives and I have been writing here for a long time about that 😊. Of course not everyone can run but whatever is the reason I am very glad that you have found a way that works !

Congrats on your weight loss - that is amazing 😊My son (age 32) has tried everything as well, he was also overweight and he started working out regularly a few years ago. He has lost 60 lbs and is now very fit and trim. Unfortunately his weigh loss did not change his migraine frequency. But it has helped his self confidence
