I've recently had Botox for chronic migraine. I had the injections two weeks ago and instead of seeing an improvement it seems to have flared everything up. I have worsening migraine and neck pain. Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else and when things improved or at least settled? Thank you

Oh no I’m so sorry the Botox has caused a flare up of your migraines. I am still on the waiting list for Botox treatment. I hope your migraines calm down soon.
I find this relatively common. Especially the 1st 2 weeks after the injections but it usually settles down afterwards.
I’ve had this happen with 4 out of the 6 times I’ve tried Botox for my migraines over the years. It seemed to settle back to my normal baseline after a couple/few weeks, but didn’t end up helping me much if at all. I ended up stopping because of it. I’m still searching for something to help. The docs told me to keep trying and that many people ended up still finding relief from it eventually, but the neck pain was just too bad (once I couldn’t lift my head without pain for 2 weeks). That said I do have a history of neck issues (herniated discs) which may have been why it irritated me more? I hope you find relief soon and that it works for you!
thank you, I also have pre-existing neck issues which the Botox has aggravated.
I have also had neck issues exacerbated by botox. In fact the 1st time I had Botox I almost refused the next dose 3 months later bc of the neck pain. They spread out all the injections in neck the next time and this stopped the neck problems.
I read on the migraine trust website that you can ask them to not inject the neck and just do the head
Sometimes it seems to take longer for the Botox to kick in than others. I’ve been getting the injections for 5 years. Several months ago I moved to a higher dose because the initial dose had lost effectiveness for me. Know it has to be hard to wait when your pain level has increased. Hope you can use your rescue meds for relief now and that the Botox will soon help you, Cara. Good luck!
I hope your pain is less soon. I am sorry to ask more questions, I am about to have botox does it affect driving if pain too bad 2 weeks afterwards. I am worried it botox make me worse and wonder if I should post pone until I am less busy. I am having MRI for a spinal problem that has come back, I had an rta . Also is it ok to drive home on the day of the botox injections? I can arrange a lift.
hello I got my husband to drive me home after but they say it's ok to drive, I just didn't want to myself. For me the biggest knock on effect of the Botox has been a flare up of neck pain that hasn't settled. I'm 4 weeks on now and had no improvement to my chronic migraine so don't think it's worked. We are all different so you may respond well. Hope it goes well.
