Hi, has anyone had Botox treatment for migraine? If yes, did it help and did it take long to see an improvement? I had my first treatment two weeks ago, no improvement yet. Thank you.
Botox for migraine : Hi, has anyone had... - National Migraine...
Botox for migraine
I had botox for migraines in 2018 with moderate pain relief but the side effects were not worth it. I suffered frequent drop attacks (several times a day) which began two weeks after the injections and lasted for approximately three months. I couldn’t drive or really care for myself in that time. Terrifying! Now I just suffer with the migraines.
Hi Topsy, I've had two rounds of Botox that haven't worked. I'm due to go back next week to have it reviewed but doubt that's happening. My migraines are as bad as ever. However you've still got time to see the improvement, my consultant said it can sometimes take until the second round to see a difference. Good luck 🤞
I have been having Botox for over 12 months. It is the best treatment I've had. I have hemiplegic migraine that causes paralysis down the right hand side of my body. Since Botox I have not had any paralysis just occasional numbness which I can cope with.
I had a about 14 Botox treatments and they certainly helped but were not a cure. I was prescribed Amlodipine by my GP for raised blood pressure. Within a month, my headaches had more or less stopped completely: for the first time in sixty years! I was able to stop the Botox and all the other treatments. I've since met several other migraine sufferers whose lives were transformed by Amlodipine. Worth trying it for a month. No side effects.
My son has NDPH migranous variant. He had two sessions of Botox, neither had any impact at all so I am sorry I can’t tell how long you’d have to wait. Wishing you better days.
Hi there ! So I’ve had my third round of Botox. So, what I would say is from experience with my specialist, it can take 2-6 weeks to see an effect from Botox. What I find is that sometimes I even see a worsening of my symptoms for a little while before they then calm down. Also, it appears to be common with Botox that the first lot sometimes doesn’t have a full desired effect and it can sometimes take several lots to get this effect. Botox does take time to kick in. I know it can feel disheartening, hang in there.
For me, once it started working it’s been the game changer. I’ve even been able to stop my medications with my consultant. I have chronic migraine with aura (with a strong vestibular vertigo component). What I would say is keep going, know that it’s common for it to take a while and sometimes several rounds to notice the difference and it can really help.
For me, I’ve had practically no side effects except a stiff neck two weeks after which my consultant said was very common, especially after the first lot.
I hope this helps somewhat x
I doubted they were making a difference but hung in there because my doc said usually three times and I figured nothing to lose. I went for a year (four times), was feeling pretty good so missed my last appt two weeks ago and had a migraine for 5 days last week. I went in two days ago for my missed appt. So yeah, I'm going to keep at it
Hello. I have done Botox 3 times. It seemed to help alittle bit. It was a while ago however. I'm actually thinking of trying it again but not sure. It really gave me acne bad where the injections were put.
Hello.
I am on my 2nd dose and although I still get migraines they are so much better. Ive just returned to work after 17 months off. The first dose made very little improvement at all for me. Hang in there!
Yes I have. Not sure if seen difference . Possibly, but if your taking medication for migraines also can’t tell for sure . I have been doing Botox for a year now just got off it to see if it really helps
It took me 3/4 sessions to see a difference. It builds up. Everyone is different though and it doesn't stop ny migraines but it shortens their lifespan and severity level so its manageable to have a life back.
