I would have thought magnesium citrate would make matters worse. The magnesium is for migraines rather than bowels and one of the problems with magnesium is it can effect your bowel adversely. Although to be fair it's more likely to give you diardiarrhoea, gas and cramping so there's a chance it could help constipation I suppose? Magnesium oxide is a poor version of magnesium though so I'd steer clear of that.
I had the same problem but have CosmoCol prescribed by a very understanding doctor. All other doctors just say eat more fibre! I take 2 sachets at night in a very small amount of strong squash. I start taking them straight after the injection not waiting to see if I need to as waiting compounds the problem. Then stopping as it gets better. Hope that helps.
Neurologists advise taking magnesium citrate for migraine. I take quite a high dose and it does not cause GI issues but it does relieve constipation which so many of the pills we take as migraine prophylactics can cause. Start on say 200mg a day (take at night) and then wait a week and go up in the dose if it doesn't help.
