I was wondering if anyone had any feedback regarding Ajovy side effects and how the medication was tolerated. I have been prescribed the 3x1 monthly injections but I am very nervous about the length of time the medication lasts with regards to any potential side effects. I also have a diagnosis of OCD, which is making the beginning of taking a new medication tough.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi. I am about to do my 6th injection tomorrow. To date I haven’t had any side effects from it. I was terrified & shaking when I did my first injection but honestly it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Good luck but I’m sure you’ll be fine. Just take your time. 😊.
No real side effects from Ajovy other than some swelling & itching around injection site. Piriton a few days before & 4 times on injection day has helped a lot! Make sure you’re not in a hurry when you do your first injection - maybe have someone with you? First year was life changing for me but more headaches now - though still manageable without triptans 😃Good luck - really hope it works for you too!
My experience too. Although it been nearly 2 years for me and sounds like you have more headaches than me. I do still get them , they are not headaches but more like 'migraine lite' and very swiftly dealt with by taking OTC pain killers.
I take one injection per month. The only side effect I experience is sometimes getting a welt around the injection area. (It’s not working as well as Aimovig used to work. Insurance made me change. But it is still worth it.) The injection is very uncomfortable. Aimovig took 15 seconds, where Ajovy takes closer to 30. So just be prepared to count in your head and bear it and wait for the click before relieving the pressure. Good luck! Still worth it!
taken my 6th injection and fab results. I’ve got my life back. I leave out of fridge longer than recommended - I leave about 45 mins to get to room temperature and no pain from injection and no side effects whatsoever - good luck!
Hi, I'm so pleased that many had experienced such good outcomes and that should be reassuring for you.I had my 1 st Ajovy injection in December and disappointing for me within a couple of moments I started with allergy. I do have many allergies so this was always a risk but wouldn't have not given it a go.
I also suffer from asthma in addition to hemiplegic migraines and it exacerbated those symptoms, affecting my breathing. Also had a full upper body rash and burning redness and itching and sadly it brought on a headache.
Hospital were brilliant giving me antihistamines and ventolin and I also had a 5 day course of steroids.
It was recommended that I didn't continue with the remaining two jabs.
After suffering with migraines since a very young age and hearing such positive stories I held out much hope for this but unfortunately not for me. It has helped so many though...including a friend of mine for whom it was a real game change.
Good to be nervous but you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from this. You will be at hospital for your first injection and well cared for.
Keeping fingers crossed that it works for you. Take care x
Thank you so much for your reply. I'm very grateful for the information you sent. I'm so sorry that you had a severe reaction to Ajovy and I send my best wishes for your future treatment. Take care.
No problems at all. It's a really good drug. The injections are not painful at all - it just feels wrong injecting yourself but you get used to it. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
I have IBS and I haven't noticed any worsening of it if that concerns you.
It changed my life so I hope that you give it a try too.
