Hello

I'm new to this site but sadly not new to migraines.

I have had them for many years and currently take Amitriptyline but they have stopped working. Many years ago I used to take Feverfew in tablet form and they worked but sadly stopped.

I'm looking to start something new but not too sure what medication is the best.

Any help with this would be much appreciated. I am asthmatic so can't take steroids.

Thank you!

Just curious how often did you take the Feverfew? Have you taken magnesium? It takes a few months but has really helped me. Especially when I take it 3x a day. There are many times but when I changed to magnesium glycinate I really saw a difference.

Also, do you know about the Heads Up Podcast? In addition the world migraine summitt ( an online site). It is well worth looking into both. These resources have been more helpful that any doctor I have visited.

Take care!

I recently went to the London Migraine Clinic after thinking i had come to the end of all the preventatives..and they recommend you attack migraine from all angles, ie lifestyle, diet etc as well as 400mg( I only need 200mg) of Vitamin B2 and magnesium ( can't remember dose but all it will do is make your bowels loose if you take a a bit much) and the drug preventative, candesartan starting dose 8mg ( I started on 2mg and gradually raised it cos I react strongly). It's a blood pressure medication and has worked wonders.

I recently ran out of vit b2 and couldn't easily get it in the lockdown and found I was getting more frequent migraines again. I now have a supply and my migraines are better. So it must be effective. I think this combination works well for me and apparently for other patients at the migraine clinic.

Hope that helps!

I tried Amitriptyline for a very short time and didn't like the side effects.

I was prescribed Metoprolol, 25 mg. twice a day and form 4 to 5 migraines a month I went to about two.

Does it matter what kind of magnesium? I use citrate, Calm powder, and recently added 400mg glyconate at night. I’m not sure if this is to much.

After reading your post I’m going to try the b2 and ask my neurologist about the candesartan. I also read that some people are having good results with namenda or generic name memantine. Are you familiar with this drug?

I spend so much time researching medications that will help.

Thank you for the information. It gives me hope.
