Unsure about news reports, that are somewhat sketchy to say the least, about NSAID's Candesartan being one.
Do I fall into the category of risk as its the only migraine medication I can take due to other medications that cannot be discontinued ??
I currently have a dry throat thats sore, slight cough. But sometimes this is associated with me getting a full on migraine. Stressful situations being my biggest trigger.

Candesartan isn’t an NSAID, as far as I know. I’ve been on it since 2014 with GREAT, GREAT, GREAT results. I only have one kidney and can’t take NSAIDs any more. They didn’t mention me stopping it. It’s a BP med, even though I don’t have high BP.
NSAIDs are things like aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, Naproxen, etc. You can ask your pharmacist just to be sure.
Hi BambieT. Sore throat and cough are one of the side effects of Candesartan and they say you have to contact your GP straight away if you get that. I've stopped Candesartan because I was getting low blood pressure with it and was getting bad cough and blocked nose. It helped me with my migraines for a few weeks and then stopped working.
That makes sense, Chleo11. Thankyou. Im the same its worked for for a while but platoed out. I have a telephone drs appt on Monday to discuss. Just concerned that if i have these symptoms my immune system is low. Im due back to work on Tuesday, travelling on public transport to Birmingham city, in an open plan office. With 1000+ staff over 7 floors. 🤔🤔
Candesartan is an ARP and there have been some reports that it can allow covid19 to access cells more easily but there has been no proper research into this and it may just be supposition. I have come off it for that reason but that’s only my personal choice and wouldn’t want to give advice one way or the other. I would talk to your doctor about it.
Hi just been put on this and at 4 mg increasing up and interesting to hear the sore throat and flu symptoms as that’s what I am getting but my migraines have not improved yet was hoping this would help 🙈 at my wits end with them 😐
I’ve been on 8mg until recently and the beneficial effects didn’t start until I’d increased to 8mg, it was quite a slow process but worth it. Candesartan is the best thing I’ve taken for migraine, I haven’t had to take a triptan for over two years now, it gave me my life back. So I would encourage you to hang in there and keep increasing the dose if your able. I had to stop at 8mg because I have low blood pressure which got even lower but after a few weeks at 8mg the migraines started to improve. Good luck, I hope it works for you.
