I've finally succumbed to covid having managed to avoid it thus far. I have chronic daily headaches/ migraine. I'm now wiped out with Covid but the worst part seems to be my migraine pain having gone up another level. Every time I cough the pain behind my eyes from the migraine is awful. Has anyone else experienced this and did the migraine pain go down a level once covid symptoms went away? Thanks

Covid and chronic migraine
hi
I’ve had covid twice and both times the migraine was awful and my usual meds didn’t really work. I found that after 2 - 3 days the pain lessoned. I also had dizziness and vomiting with covid. Hope the pain eases soon
Hi
I also have chronic migraine and had covid for the first time 5 weeks ago. I had 2 really awful migraines and i didn't really get back to my usual level for over 3 weeks but it does seem to have settled so I hope it does for you too.
over the counter meds dont touch my permanent ndph but wen i got covid they did work to bring the head pain back down to a manageable level
I now know i can get a headache on top of the permanent one. Hope u soon better
what’s the meds you used to help with Covid headaches and what is ndph
new daily persistent headache is normally something that comes off a virus/stressful time in your life, you can pin point when it started, I was diagnosed years ago, I have an unremitting headache from the time I wake up and go to sleep, it never goes!! It also has the capability to mimic migraine, like exactly the same - I have the migraine symptoms - sick, dizzy, sound, light, feels like my head is going to explode, can’t move etc. hope this helps. A lot of people who have suffered long Covid (an infection) are now getting NDPH, I’m hoping and praying that they actually now start looking into helping it properly, I’ve suffered for years and there’s next time no help. X
someone on another thread recommended duloxetine for ndp headache if you haven't tried it. I have no idea about it.
luckily when I had covid I didn't get a migraine, mine was all about a very painful throat and exhaustion. The only thing I can think of to ease this if migraine medication isn't working is cough suppressing. A lot of flu tablets/liquids that contain guaifenesin which should relieve symptoms. Cough suppressant in pain killers are opiods so for over the counter you need things like co-codamol (paracetamol and codeine). Unfortunately there used to be a cough suppressant called Pulmo Bailie which was so good at stopping coughs but they stopped making it 😩.
Codeine is only sold in small doses but it might do the trick. Your GP could prescribe higher doses of codeine but I know it's hard getting GP appointments these days and my GP is weird about prescribing painkillers 🙄
i had COVID twice last year: September and December. COVID triggered chronic migraine with aura plus hypnopompic and hypnogogic hallucinations and essential tremor. Currently on Amitriptyline and Lamotrigine with a target of 5 hours per week headaches by the end of this year. Not much fun.
I’ve had covid twice now and both times my migraines have been worse. The first time intense migraine every day for 3 months afterwards. It finally eased with an increase in amitriptyline (I’m now on 30mg a day) and I also started taking 200mg of riboflavin, vitamin b2. This time in September the daily migraines lasted 9 days after covid. I still take the same meds but have been to a physio who treated my neck. It seems to have stopped the daily one. Since seeing the physio 4 days ago, I’ve had 1 migraine, the same evening that she treated me, nothing since.
Hi Marie, I've just read you're post, I've had chronic migrane every day since middle of december, I've always suffered with migran e but since a virus in December, I've got constant pain. I've got my first physio next Wednesday as I have neck and shoulder pain, did you find relief straight away?
I had COVID in April...and had a really severe headache on the first couple of days, but thankfully COVID didn't worsen my chronic migraines once headache settled. I wish you well and hope things settle for you soon.
