Has anyone tried Diath piercing of the ear for migraines. I live in NZ and have been told it really help and some suffer no more.

I feel it does help now it could be other things as well but since I got it done my migraines aren't as frequent it's definitely worth a try if you don't mind a piercing! 😊

The only article I have seen on data collected about Diath piercing is that they help initially but the effect wears off after a couple of months, so probably just placebo. Plus there is no regulation so any piecer can say they know where to place the Diath precisely to relieve migraine but no one can make sure they actually can. On the up side it probably wont do you any harm!

Thku. I would certainly need to find the correct person to do the piercing. Thks for taking time to reply.

Hi, I did it done but it didn't help. That's not to say it won't help for other people. I just thought I would give it a go as it was only £15 and I had nothing to loose!

Good Luck if you try it.

I had mine done a year ago and unfortunately it didn't help. And it got infected so I had to take it out after 3 months. Some people have great success with it though. And I'm one that will try ANYTHING to get rid of these migraines.

Yrs that's how I feel. Try anything. I am somewhat dubious about who does it etc. Thks for replying.

Yes definitely make sure you go to a reputable piercing establishment that knows what they are doing. I went to a great place here in my city (an all female tattoo and piercing studio-it was pretty awesome) and made sure that they were experienced with the daith piercings before having it done. I had checked out a few places prior. I will tell you that about 20 minutes after having it done I got a horrific migraine on the way home but I believe that was caused by the anxiety before and during the procedure, not really anything to do with the piercing itself. And I'm told that's normal by a few other people that had it done. if you search here for daith postings you'll find that many people have had great success. I'm just not one of them. But it's a cute earring either way! I'd eat shit on a stick if I was told it would cure my chronic daily migraines. anything to make it better. At this point I am still doing botox and my plethora of rescue meds while biding my time waiting for Eli lily's miracle drug to come out. I can't take triptans so I'm a bit stuck. I really wish Cambia wasn't so expensive because it's a great rescue med. I have migraine with no aura so I'm totally screwed when they hit.

GL to you!

I have never heard of Eli Lily. I must admit I do have wonderful success with Maxalt melts. Thankyou for taking the time to write to me. I have taken on board what you have shared and will make sure I look into it properly.

I've never heard of Maxalt melts. I'll have to check into those. Lilly is a major pharmaceutical company in the US, based here out of Indianapolis, IN. Makers of prozac as one example. There are 2 other companies developing a similar drug and the phase 3 trials showed most people having significant improvement and my neurologist says it's so much safer than the current treatments.

Hi. I had mine done after having 3 weeks of auras every day. It was the worst migraine I'd ever had. I'm afraid that it didn't work for me and grew out after nine months. :-(.

I've been gluten free for 6 months now due to thyroid issues and I have to say that my migraines have subsided dramatically. I still get headaches but ones that are bearable and have only had two auras (but that was when I started my medication for thyroid). Maybe try gluten free for a few weeks and see if it helps. X

Hey, I had it done, no relief for me but I have loads of friends of friends that have had it and swear by it-I think most of them had mild migraines.

I read somewhere that it is meant to be an acupressure point. My acupuncturist actually did a load of research to understand the reasoning for the point, she found that it is a good release point, to get rid of bad stuff like stress, anxiety etc., but has nothing to do with acupressure.
