Hi. I’ve been in Pregabalin for over a year now. I have gradually increased the dose with the help of my GP and am now on 500 mg a day. It has definitely helped with the symptoms I was getting (hemiplegic migraine) but there are loads of side effects to take into consideration.

My memory is not what it used to be that’s for sure. I forget words and what I’m trying to say. I don’t think my mind is as quick whittled as it was and honestly I sometimes feel stupid.

Not sure if when I come off them I will be ‘me’ again?

Many Thanks for sharing I am only on 100 Mg a day can’t say it’s helping maybe it is too low a dosage Interesting you say it’s affecting your memory it’s the thing that scares me the most especially at my age haha bad enough anyway so Happy it’s helping you thx again 😊

Out of interest, where was that prescribed? I only ask because the BNF doesn't suggest pregabalin for migraine prevention.

Have you tried any other, more usual prophylactic treatments?

Hi my doctor gave it to me 50 Mg then increase to 100 Mg and yes I also started candesartan and maxalt which works well 😊

Yes Scotland

Was that prescribed by a GP or a neurologist? Very odd of them to do so, as there is no good evidence of it being effective as a migraine treatment.

Doctor! At my wits end with docs tbh as they don’t seem to get how bad migraines affect my day to day life trying different meds as migraines have increased due to car accident and neck pain and that’s why I posted question as didn’t think Pregab was a migraine tablet anyway lol will ask them now I have the info 😊🙏

Ahh. Maybe it was prescribed for the neck pain.

Candesartan is one of the most usually-prescribed migraine prophylactics, but if it's not working (give it at least three months) then you should ask to try another drug.

Will do many thanks will stick with it for now do you get Migraines? If so what do you take ?

I do. I take pizotifen, which seems to be reducing migraine frequency (although they make me sleepy in the morning and evening, as well as increase my appetite).

I've tried amitriptyline (made me too sleepy and gain weight) and topiramate (worked for the migraines, but made me totally miserable). I can't take beta-blockers as I have asthma.

I also take magnesium, riboflavin, B12 and Co-enzyme Q-10, but I don't know if they have much effect.

I took pregabalin for back pain when I had a slipped disc and it was the only thing that helped. They are also prescribed for anxiety, so the combination should help a bit as anxiety is a big player in migraines. I'm still on a low dose and I'd love to attribute my appalling memory to the drug, but I suspect it's old age! I'll be weaned off them at some point, but I can only say they do help me with the pain.

Hi. I've been on Pregabalin for a 3+ years now, top dose 225mg. Prescribed by my old neurologist. I dont think it helped my migraines much. My new(er) neurologist says theres no evidence to help migraines. But I do know others who take it at v.high doses and it does help them.

I just wanted to make sure you know that it can be very difficult to get off as the withdrawal is hard. I didn't know that when I started. Apparently it's well known! It is worth it if it works for you though.

I have been weaning down super slowly over the last year and half. But I hit 100mg day and have had to stay there as going lower I had awful worsening of my balance problems (I have vestibular migraine) and a real set back. Has taken me 5 months to stabilise again. So I am struggling to get off it completely now.
