Hi - is Aimovig on the PBS in Australia? Does anyone know how much it costs? Its great to see some people have had benefits. I feel like its my only hope left but I'm worried about the cost and that I didn't respond to botox it might not work. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Aimovig in Australia
Hi I've only just read your post.i read that Aimovig is available in Germany but they have to pay for it as their insurance won't cover it yet. Do you know if this is available in GB? Thanks Elfie
Hello Elfie,
There are few things to note:
1) When you say, "available" - it could mean available for free or paid privately or available via insurance.
2) When you say GB - it is more complex. Scotland + England + Wales all form GB and they all have different rules !
Aimovig has been rejected (free via NHS) in England & Wales but it is available free in Scotland. Of course you need to be qualified to receive it for free - such as 3 different migraine treatments failed in the past etc.
If you can get a private prescription (example, from National Migraine Centre), it is possible to purchase in England but it costs approximately £5k (GBP) per year.
Hello Louie_Rgg
In Australia, it is not free (PBS) to patients at the moment. However, I heard it is available if you can somehow get a private prescription and pay for it privately. Cost is very high though !

Hi troy thanks for your answer. I live in England. I googled Aimovig and found that it's available on the NHS in Scotland. I have really bad migraines because I have Lupus and Antiphospholipid syndrome, I'm on twice daily Heparin injections and although the migraines are not as frequent, when I get one it is really bad. I can't tolerate tryptans and nothing else seems to work. So thanks for your reply, I shall ask if I can get a trial and pay for it when I go to my next rheumatology appt. Kind regards Elfie
