Using Botox but occasional big migraine break outs

Hi Ive been using Botox for two years now every 3 months. I had slow steady improvement. The last Six months were exceptional with only 1-5 migraines or so. Then, a solid 5 weeks of migraines straight. Had to go get a steroid injection occipital nerve block injection to try and stop it. Does anyone else get wild break through migraine episodes?

It appears that multiple things tip me over, fatigue, over work, stress, sore neck, etc then it hits and it’s hard to get it back.

It drives me mad, just when I think I’ve got it under control. I can’t work out how to permanently keep it under control. Maybe it never will. Does anyone else get big break through episodes on Botox?

Claudeminh, so sorry to hear of your discouraging moments on Botox. I had Botox injections several years ago when it was first being tried for migraine. The first three months (summer, my worst migraine time... I’m in Northern California) were a miracle... not one migraine. Then they started creeping back in so I went for another round, after which migraines started up at two months time vs the initial three months.

Then, the next time after one month pain free, a migraine appeared with vengeance and would not dissolve for a month. I was desperately taking daily Imitrex tablets and Imitrex injection as well, just to hang on. I stoped the Botox. My neurologist, who was one of the first to use it therapeutically for migraine, said I was the only patient he had out of hundreds, who was not helped 100% by Botox. So be it.

I’m now just about Ketogenic and having some relief following Angela Stanton’s Migraine Group online. I’m going very slowly still weaning off Triptans, but have hope for the first time in my life. Is the Stanton Group still a support for you? If so, how much help, and if not, what was your experience? I would so appreciate hearing about your path. Take care .

Hi I’m back having a good run again with very few migraines so that’s good. I’m still on Botox every three months and mostly on keto diet but last 4 weeks off it which I will pay for. But I’ve not been in the Stanton group so not sure how good they are.
