Just thinking of Migraine and.....

Hi to the forum i am a male in my 50's

I have migraine Aura without headache i was checking when i last had a migraine on my phone calendar within a couple of minutes had a migraine start, how do you explain that..coincidence?Seems a bit strange.

I normaly have 5-6 a month just put up with them since 2011 and stopped types of food with a migraine diary

but still can't pin any connection with

types of food.I haven't bothered with medication as i only get Aura and the Doctor said the medications give quite strong adverse reactions in most cases.I have GERD or LPR Reflux i have a suspicion there may be a link with migraine ,but im not so sure it is food.

I have B12 injections every 2 months

and tried Magnesium for a while which i think had a placebo affect as it made very little diffence.

I hope there is a cure one day for this for the millions who get it worse than myself with all the extra symptoms to put up with.

Hi Zigabella

thank for your reply,

most of the time i get sparkles or zigzag lights in the vision that move and get larger over 30 mins without a headache i see the aura in vision but seen by both eyes .Also other occasions i ger sensory numbness in one hand or both and and if i text in a migraine attack sometimes i think i am texting normal words but later will read it back and it's a lot of nonsense! I can see people missing an eye or with shortened face .Sometimes feel washed out after one or just normal after other ones.

I had an ocular migraine back in February. Flashing zig zags, holes of vision loss etc. My eyesight has not recovered. Blurred vision continually which is worse if I am tired or need to concentrate. Completely understand about sending nonsensical texts! Amitriptilyne helped with the stabbing headaches to a degree but cannot sort vision as well as ongoing vertigo. Very frustrating. I also get pins and needles in left hand and also on the left side of my face as well as in both feet. B

You may have a migraine variant now as well as migraine with aura. I suffer both and have issues with vision and vertigo. Try the mav forum and see if you have any other similar symptoms. I’m on nortiptyline and my vision returned to normal and the dizziness stoppped .

Migraines can be triggered by different things in different people and they do change over time.

B12 deficiency can cause migraine type headaches and the probability is that the GERD is related to the B12 deficiency as the most common cause of B12 deficiency, PA, attacks the cells that produce acid reducing stomach acidity, but your stomach needs a certain level of acidity before it turns off the production of other gastric juices, leading to build up and reflux. You may find that taking something acidic - eg some lemon or lime juice in water helps with that.

types of lighting can trigger attacks in some people so it may have been using the phone that did something when you were susceptible.

Are you self injecting B12 and if so with what frequency? Just wondering if they may correlate with injections.

Migraine without headaches can be just as debilitating as migraine with aura - not being able to focus is a right pain if not a physical pain and can be very debilitating.

I am female and have suffered from hormonal migraines for years. Mine come with gut spasms which are totally debilitating but have increasingly moved to aura and sometimes just aura as my hormones change going through the menopause. Last year I had a trapped nerve and was on naproxen for a bit over a month - during which time I had no migraines - which lead me to try using ibuprofen - which can be quite effective now. If you haven't tried it it may be worth giving it a try ... though I am aware that NSAIDs tend to be contra-indicated with auto-immune gastritis (PA).

Hello Gambit62

that is a good point i was using my phone at the time so could be the answer.I am sorry to hear you also have migraine i hope eventually the frequency reduces in time as you do have some horrible effects.

You have been very helpful as you normaly are with mine and other members questions on B12 .

But you advice is very interesting regarding PA and the affect on cells in the stomach.I don't self inject i have an injection every 2 months

due to to neurological symptoms.

Thanks for your tips on lemon amd lime which i will try. Thanks for your support.

Good Luck

Advice1-

It's amazing how different everyone is.. When I first started taking Magnesium I was the same way I didn't believe it made any difference and then my migraines got less intense, then they got less frequent. So I do not ever skip a dose because when I do I know how much it helps. To be honest you should take 250 mg 2x everyday for at least 8 months then see if there is a difference. It really took a long time for it to work. Many different doctors ( regular MD's, Neurologist, medical journals, etc..) have all said the same thing it takes a long time to work.

I second the opinion about food. I spent a lot of time charting food and things they said don't take always seem to help me.

With the migraine drugs, I disagree, I do not have any bad side effects from taking them I would recommend you at least "fill" an RX so you have one the worse that can happen is your Aura can really end up in a full blown migraine then you don't have anything to help and you end up really needing medical help ( you will not want to end up in the ER)..

Hope this helps..

Hi ,thanks for your reply sorry it has been a while since i have been on the site. Thanks for your tips too about medications i am very opened minded and it is helpful to get your take on migraines too.I didn’t realise it can take so long to get the benefit of magnesium either.

I have recently started taking Riboflaven (B2) i take it in the morning as it interfered with my sleep.I know there was some clinical trials usuing supplements of 400 mcg of Riboflavin for 3 months

but i didn’t want to take that kind of mega dose and as i am not a Doctor i am not recommending anyone should take that amount as there are no studies ,i have seen on on Safe upper limits of this high amount taken over a long period and the adverse affects on the body ,so i am very cautious as to the amount to take as RDA

is around 1.3mg for men and 1.1mg for women i think. There was also some clinical trials where they used 25 mg a day

which did reduce migraine. And the upper safe limit i have seen in literature is 43mg a day which includes 3 mg from your diet.NHS quote 55mg as Safe upper limit.

I will stick with low amount and give it a go and see how things go as it is worth a try to find out if it actually does have an affect on Migraine.

Best of luck to you and i hope you have a lower frequency of Migraines in the future.
