Hello I've tried so many meds and now been put on Sertraline but reading lots of posts no one seems to mention it. Anyone tried it please? Many thanks.

Hi janine, never heard of it but googled it. It looks like another seretonin antidepressant, give it a try and keep your eye on weight gain 😣

I was on it years ago. Of all the anti depressants I found it the best, and it has very good anti anxiety effects.

The side effects aren't fun in the first couple of weeks, but after that not too bad although they never go completely.

I've not been on any antidepressant for many years now. But I also found that a very low carb (ketogenic)/high fat diet has done more for my anxiety than any medication.

Hi,

I've been taking Sertraline for 4 years now. Started on 50mg, upped to 100mg after 6 weeks and been on that dose since.

I did experience side effects at the start, but not now. I'm taking this for its primary function as an antidepressant.

I'm also taking other medication daily - Naproxen, Gabapentin, Almotriptan, Esomeprazole & Fexofenadine.

Hope this is helpful.

Cheers, catmag 😎

Thank you. Interesting you are taking Naproxen too as I was told not to take it with Sertraline because of increased bleeding? Might be worth asking just in case.

Hi.

Just started Naproxen 3 May, due to having 3 slipped discs. I had been on Diclofenac daily for over 12 years. GP fully aware of all meds, I'm sure that's why he also prescribed Esomeprazole. It's a gastro resistant med, so protects the gut.

Will keep you updated if I experience any ill effects.

Cheers, catmag.

Did you take Sertraline for headaches/migraine too? Did it help?

No, not for migraines. Just as an antidepressant.

I take Almotriptan for migraines. The Gabapentin serves a dual purpose, to treat neuralgia and as a preventative for the migraines. Although I've not yet found an effective med for preventing my migraines.

Cheers, catmag.

There are so many antidepressants - no one knows which may work for whom - so good luck and please let us know your experience !

Regarding weight gain - NHS says: "Sertraline can make you feel more or less hungry than usual, so you may lose or gain weight when you start taking it."

-- So whether you will gain weight or lose weight - is not certain, but if a large weight loss occurs, it has to be reported to the doctors.

Thank you I will let you know. Probably eating less at the mo as feel nauseous but I hope that will wear off.

I tried sertraline a few years ago to help migraine prevention but in fact it made them worse as had such florid dreams and restless nights I would wake with a migraine! That's just me though .
