I considered this once before, but was scared off by stories of people whose migraines got worse. I decided I wasn't prepared to take that risk. But, now I'm wondering how significant that risk really is. Any experience welcome.

Did tubal ligation affect your migraines?
I hope the lack of interest here means tubal ligation doesn't cause any ill effects on migraines... although my google tells a slightly different story.
I had a tubal ligation at the same time as my c-section with my last child. It didnt have any effects on my migraines.
I believe that my tubal ligation made my migraines much, much worse. In fact, they are so bad that I went to see an integrated/functional medicine doctor, who performed a variety of tests on my hormone levels. It was found that my levels "should be" normal, but clearly my symptoms were not. I get a migraine on a very predictable schedule, before and after ovulation and before and after my period....every month. Some months are worse than others. I always knew my migraines were hormone related, but could never figure out why they got worse after I had children. I had my tubes tied during my c-section for my 2nd child. I thought that the chronic fatigue and mood swings was simply part of being a mother, but I couldn't figure out why the migraines were so much worse than they ever were...after having kids. In fact, during both of my pregnancies, I had NO migraines at all. My functional medicine doc recommended bioidentical progesterone to balance out the estrogen levels, but still, that seems to be a band-aid. I think I need to have the tubal reversal. I've been reading about the Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome and it seems like that is the exact issue that I'm having. I wish I would have considered the side effects of the tubal before I did it.
Hi Kate,
Did you ever get to the bottom of this with your doctor and did they ever say that the tubal was causing them? I had my tubal during a c section with my 3rd daughter and the migraines have been like clock work & increased in intensity since my tubal. My neurologist doesn't seem to see the connection but seeing as I had 2 other c sections I think this tubal has made a huge difference.
My OBGYN says that the tubal is not the 'cause' although I am still having migraines. They are like clockwork, and have gotten progressively worse/stronger. I just started seeing a new/different neurologist. I'm sorry I don't have better news or updates to report.
Wow, so I have the same symptoms Kate (I keep Excedrin in business). Well, my doctor after 3 years of doing the procedure said the tubal is the cause of my migraines getting worse. Unfortunately for me he's retired and no other doctors will tie the two together. Until now....I found a specialist (female doctor, go figure) who also believes the two are tied together. I am currently going through the testing process to conform I am a candidate for tubal reversal. I know it's the cause and I will prove it.
Just a follow up on my post - I just did blood work (they took a lot of my blood, about 12 vials and I had a glucose test). I have a follow up on Monday with my doctor. She wanted to make sure she ruled out all possibilities before confirming the headaches are linked to the tubal ligation. I am thinking for insurance purpose and also we do not want to reverse it if the cause is something else. In this process, I have also downloaded a migraine tracker app so that I can keep track of triggers, how often the headaches come and how long they last. My doctor said this may or may not help but it is good to know if there are any triggers.
I have always had migraines, after my Tubal Litigation in 2012 they went from lasting a few hours to one day to lasting 7-10 days. I'm not functional during a migraine at all any more. I've lost so many work days. I'm currently scheduled to get the tubal reversed to see if it helps!
Hi Sassie Cassie,
Do you mind if I ask... did you have the reversal and did it help?
Thanks, Kate Murray
Hi Kate I had my tubal done back in 2003. I had never ever suffered from migraines until I had the surgery. I see a specialist but they all say the same thing tubal has nothing to do with migraines. Well last year with my income tax I paid for my reversal and my migraines were gone until I had a tubal pregnancy and lost both tubes. Yes the reversal helps insurance will not cover but it's worth it. In my case I lost both tubes and well they are back worst and last for days. I get them around my period. Hope this gives you some hope and good luck.
Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread but. ...I'm seriously considering getting a tubal reversal. I went from having one to three migraines a month to 2 or 3 a week while I was pregnant with my second child. Had emergency c section due to preeclampsia in 8/14 and had a tubal ligation at that time. Was on some good pain killers for 3 weeks after but my migraines seemed to subside for a few months. then gradually they got worse to the point I have them daily and they are completely debilitating. I put on weight to the point that I am now as heavy as I was at 9 months pregnant. no matter what I eat or don't eat. I have other issues as well and I honestly think they are all attributable to the tubal ligation. especially the migraines. has anyone else had similar experiences and had a reversal done? I know Google is no one's friend when it comes to worse case scenarios but all the info I find leads me to TLS.
