I am new to this group, but been a migraine sufferer for decades. Did I see a comment somewhere that some of you use daily low dose aspirin as a way to prevent migraines? Wondering if this works and I should try it. are there any risks? Thank you.

If you're suffering from migraines normally a doctor would possibly prescribe propananol, I think it's a type of beta blocker, I'm unsure about the aspirin treatment though, there's numerous types of headaches or migraines and trying to find the right treatment involves seeing a neurologist as doctors aren't totally clued up with the many types of headaches etc, best of luck 😀
Thank you. Yes I should have said I’ve seen a neurologist in the past and tried all types of meds. I’m still on propranalol. Headaches slowed down last 2 years but starting up again. Never tried aspirin so wondering if this is a tactic.
Ah I'm really not sure about the aspirin approach, I suffered with cluster headaches and they are truly awful, they are commonly known as " suicide " headaches and are the worst pain known to mankind I believe, I was on topiramate after the original course of propananol from the doctors which failed to work, and the headaches came back, even after doubling up the dose, I've had nerve block injections in the base of my skull they didn't work either, I was given an epipen containing sumaptrapin in injection form, and then went onto verapamil, this was a godsend, so perhaps you need a better type of medication, I hope you find a cure.
I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through. When my headaches were at their peak, I suspected they were cluster headaches as well based on all the symptoms. I’ve done it all. Nothing worked. truly awful.
I’m better now I believe because I have been on prednisone for the past 2 years due to another condition but I’m tapering off and headaches are returning.
low dose aspirin is sometimes prescribed for patients who have anti phospholipid antibodies, but have not had any clotting events.
In other words, the blood might be a tiny bit too thick, but not enough to clot. Anti platelet such as aspirin might be enough to do the trick, but a proper anticoagulant like warfarin might be too much and cause a bleed.
APS ( anti phospholipid syndrome) is an autoimmune blood clotting disorder. It’s in the lupus family, sort of like a close cousin. Some lupus patients also have lupus along with APS , or you can simply have APS by itself, known as primary APS .
I have a very severe case of APS. ( migraines are a hallmark.) it hits young women, causes miscarriages and pregnancy problems, early strokes, TIA’s heart attacks, angina, DVT’s/ PE’s , and a purple blue lace like rash in skin called lived riticularus. ( tiny capillaries in skin are micro clotting) - causes visual disturbances- impaired blood flow to vessels ) tingling sensation, gastro angina, gastroparesis ( low blood flow to bowels) ,
I was already taking 1 soluble aspirin for blood thinning so my neurologist suggested I up it to 2. It didn’t help. I think you need to discuss aspirin with your doctors as it can cause problems in some people.
