Hi all! I've been diagnosed with chronic migraines since I was a teen and more recently with PCOS . I'm having terrible hormonal migraines constantly!!! I recently told I have a hormonal imbalance in that my progesterone is far too low and my estrogen is normal (so I have estrogen dominance) which is likely to be causing the migraines to be so terrible.
Has anyone else experienced a similar hormonal imbalance and migraines. If so please can you let me know your experience and anything that helped you?
Hi,Sorry to hear you're having a rubbish time of it.
For decades I got a hemiplaegic migraine every time I ovulated. Then in 2016 I had what the doctors first thought was a stroke, but later called a 'migranous event' which has left me with a permanent hemiplaegic migraine. It transpires I am also going through early menopause, and the Endocrinologist told me she thought that may be causing the permanent migraine because of hormonelevel disruption.
I wish at this point in the story that I could tell you I have found a miracle cure...but sadly not. I have lost count of how many treatments I've tried. The most effective was botox, so if you can get referred for that I'd give it a go. If nothing else, you will have a lovely smooth forehead 😂
I can't have HRT because I have other conditions, so I am working my way through natural remedies to see if anything helps. I guess that's something else you could try? I'm finding sage tablets help with hot flushes, but nothing has helped with the migraines yet.
Good luck, I really hope you find something that works for you! 🤞
thank you so much for your reply!! yes I've been told I can't take the combined pill because of the migraines which I sometimes get with aura. Sorry you've been experiencing all this! I'm on the waiting list for Botox so just hoping for the best! Wishing you the best of luck.
Have you considered using an IUD? Many women have NO periods. It really has helped me alot. Also have you considered taking a high dose of magnesium, there are many types, but glycinate has helped me the most. A number of Neurologist have told.me I can take up to 1600mg DAILY. What has helped me the most is 3x a day. If I miss a dose I get a migraine quickly. I also take Feverfew 2x daily am and pm.
I also really notice I can not skip any meal. I have protein at every meal.
My daughter has these (I just have regular pain in the backside migraines w/o aura now that I’ve crossed the men-o-bridge). My daughter has a complicated scenario with 10week long periods (she’s 30) and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in both lower limbs. But, she got her migraines down to 2 a month with Aimovig 70mg, a Mirena (which releases progesterone only), B2, magnesium glucinate and daily exercise.
I could give you a whole list of things she has tried in the last decade. No other birth control, especially combo pills were effective. Most did nothing, some made it worse. Depo caused her CRPS. The first Mirena worked for about 5 years. Originally, it was supposed to last about 10 years but it was new. Now they know 7 at best for the hormonal benefits
thank you so much and so sorry that you're daughter has struggled so much! I suffer with multiple chronic illnesses too and it's made it hard to get treatment that works and doesn't make something else worse! It's good to hear she's found some things to help her. Currently on the waiting list for CGRP and about to start the mini pill so fingers crossed! Best of luck to you and your daughter.
Ohh yes. All my life. Bane of my life. See post above. Try Dolovent tablets they don’t cure but they do help and all natural. I sympathise 100%. Hard to cope with x
I have had the same thing for years . It started at 14 around the time my pcos symptoms did but I didn't know what it was til my 30s . Trying to get a Dr to correlate the 2 is frustrating . They just assume you mean your monthly cycle not the hormones we deal with daily
