Hello everyone, I haven't been on thi... - Mental Health Sup...
Hello everyone, I haven't been on this forum in 3 years. I just wanted to say that I'm glad to be back.
Psychiatrist? Therapist? Doctor can advise on psychiatrist to use
Welcome back , we hope to please.
We are supposed not to recommend medications because most are similar .
Side effects of course can possibly be different to each patient. If we keep changing medications initial treatment paterns can cause different side effects
so sticking to one nedication can be the best way forward, under GP recommendations as you keep changing drugs and not allowing the first medications to work will open you up to trying different drugs and we end up being unpatient and not allowing things to work for, long enough periods
Hi Create9113, I have had severe Anxiety problems, for the last 40 years or so, and have tried all the usual routes, advised by my GP, including counselling.
I have tried two Antidepressants, one short term, and took on one of them for over three years. The only benefit of the last one was that I got a fairly good nights sleep regularly. But it did not help my Anxiety at all.
So I weaned myself gradually off them, after being told that I would be on them for life. I have also been on an American Anxiety pill called Alporozolam(Zanax) Since 1988, I have been on and off this, sometimes for several years at a time.
It's not an NHS drug, and has to be obtained privately. I have a very understanding GP and she allows me to take a half, or one a day, if and when needed.. This works for me. (Not all GP's are so understanding', I have to say.
I also have been taking one or two 50mg Tramadol and 2 Panadol for pain, with my GP's permission.
Since taking these two pills, over a period of three months, I was feeling more, fatigued, Lightheaded, and Nauseous, than normal. My GP told me that I was in fact suffering 'Withdrawel Symtom's.
I stopped taking both a week ago, and I feel that I am slightly better for it, and I expect to feel even better as time goes on.
So my advice to you would be, be very careful, and only take medication when advised to do so by the 'Medics', and be honest with them, as to how many you take and when you take them. (A personal view, which works for me, but of course we are all different.)
At the risk of sounding boring, I have lost a fair bit of weight, and on excercise, diet, with a slow long breathing programme, and that also works very well indeed for me.
I was told when I had a mini stroke, and operation 4 years ago, followed quickly by a CLL diagnosis, that we have better outcomes, if we are fit, keep our weight down, and eat nutritionally and healthly. A positive oulook helps as well.
I appreciate at the moment, all I have said, may be too much for you, to take in and register, so a first and urgent step, I suggest, would be to see your GP, and take it from there.
It also helps if you have someone you trust, to talk to (Very important, and extremely helpful, again, for me personally.)
Things will get better for you over time once you find your own route through this Create 9113,. Many of us have been through this, and it can be Managed, and even Beaten. I wish you well for the future, let us know how you get on. Regards Ron.
Thank you everyone. The last two days since I posted this have been really good. I sometimes have my moments were it's hard to see the good in life. Just know that I appreciate your answers and hope everyone is doing well.
Hi pal,Sorry to hear this. I'm in a much better place after help from meds. I never thought I'd survive last year it was sooo bad. I literally could not cope living despite having a great life with wife and son.
I was put on 3 meds, Pregabalin, Quetiapine and Venlafaxine. Hope this helps. Keep fighting, life will get better.
The most vital part of above is that you need to get stable on the meds first, then get counselling. For me it had to be this way around. See your doctor first who will advise best meds to get you there. I saw meds as a crutch to help me but ultimately it was psychology and determination that got me to today. I've now halved the meds too!
I also found being compassionate to others helped me too, which I still make efforts to do now.
You can get through this...
Firstly, talk to your doctor but failing that talk to people around you like family or friends. Always here ok
